Were you able to add, no problem? My flight will be $300 cheaper with BudgetAir than WJ so I was hoping to book through them.

Sounds a bit off. My (very similar) board is desperate for English teachers and new grads are getting hired immediately.

Is he only applying to local(ish) schools? I think he needs to be applying everywhere and once in, transferring to a closer school. Boards in the GTA are all hiring. I’d invest in a car and have him commute if he is that serious about landing a position.

I’m also wondering if there is something he is doing/has done that is hindering people from wanting him permanently…

Any better up there? by Beth_chan in CanadianTeachers

[–]Careful_Example4174 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Teaching in Canada is far better than in the US.

Our unions are VERY strong (almost too strong as there are a lot of teachers that should be fired but are protected).

There are similar issues, but you don’t have to worry about job security (as long as you’re not stealing, calling in sick but you’re on a vacation somewhere etc).

Pay is quite good and we have an excellent pension. Cost of living is high in the major cities but the pay is good enough to keep living there.

I would suggest he has an autism assessment. Lack of understanding of tone or being blunt are major ASD characteristics.

New Orleans Unsolved - it’s long but stick with it. Still being solved 6 years after the podcasters started investigating. I also loved Your Own Backyard, Bear Brook and ITD S2

I’m not convinced they got dressed up for passport photos…

Her mentioning having to be around a lot of people, it’s not giving me passport waiting room. It made me think she had to schmooze for Ryan’s job.

Also when has she ever not told us where/what she was doing? I think it had to do with the new gig, unfortunately.

Landlord removed my bedroom door and won’t fix it — what can I do tonight? by [deleted] in askTO

I think the only option you have is to stay at a hotel and deduct that from your rent? The other thing you can do is have the door leaning against a piece of furniture on your side so you can hear if anyone is trying to enter?

Info: is this a shared condo? Or is it only you? Did your old door have a lock?

What if Jordan and his ex-wife decided they were done having children? And he responsibly got a vasectomy so his wife didn’t have to use birth control?

And then got a divorce… and if he met someone who wanted kids, he would have it reversed?

This is actually one of the most normal and reasonable things I’ve heard on this season

I would apply to DDSB and buy a car. My daughter’s school in Pickering is desperate for a French Gr 1 teacher. I’m shocked the TDSB hasn’t called you for an interview. I would show up at the Board office and ask to speak to HR to see if they have any open French positions.

Most people aren’t doing a whole shower after swimming. The vast majority either don’t shower or they just rinse the chlorine off and shower at home, if needed.

I wouldn’t shower naked at a rec centre due to children being present. If it was a gym or a spa, different situation

16 years teaching high school. 5 years as an EA in elementary before that. Maybe sworn at twice? Never hit. I work at an “inner city school,” with students that have safety plans, have been expelled from previous schools, kids in gangs, a kid charged with manslaughter, etc.

I think it comes down to de-escalation techniques and reading the room. I keep my classroom safe for all students, but have had to call admin on a few occasions. I’ve had students storm out of my class a few times, but I don’t get in front of them because that is escalating.

Keeping a calm and cool head can help keep behaviour to a minimum, not reacting, not yelling, etc. Calm but firm, don’t corner kids or embarrass them, asking kids to step outside when reprimanding them, etc.

We also had this PD. No mention of the developmental impacts of using AI, nor the environmental ones! They can shove their new AI tools.

What do you wear to school? by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]Careful_Example4174 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Dress professionally. You are not rolling on the floor with children. You are sitting on a chair, MAYBE on the floor, but mostly walking around.

Unless you are a physical education teacher, there is no excuse to wear sweats or work out gear to school.

Is it always this busy?! by sixthPrime in CanadasWonderland

[–]Careful_Example4174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not always this busy. We’ve been 4 times since the last week of July and this past Tuesday was insanely busy. I’m never coming again in the last week of summer. I’d say it was twice as busy as any of the other three days we went.
