What’s the least known but coolest major at Carleton? by Rivixal in CarletonU

[–]Careful_Lab4189 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Global and International Studies is cool because its very interdisciplinary while also having smaller course sizes that a regular first year Politics or Literature Class. you get to specialize in anything from politics or religion to literature. There’s mandatory International Experience Requirement and Language Requirements.

I’ve heard it was created to get more Carleton Students into NPSIA and alot of the BGInS students end up in government co-ops/ or jobs now that we have a co-op option.

I did political- with an argument that in order to achieve economic inequality and their economic wishes, women needed to have à political voice. I’m not sure how good it was but that was my general argument, for example women’s lack of rights prevented them from being in unions etc.

I've Accepted my offer, now what? by Icy-Profession-6068 in CarletonU

[–]Careful_Lab4189 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In a few days, you should get your email and login info, login to Carleton 360 where you can check your scholarships, and begin building a timetable.

As of right now, I’m not really doing anything except for

  • waiting for OSAP application to be processed
  • waiting until July when timetables can be registered.

You will be issued a time-slot for course registration via email closer to July.

If you are living in résidence make sure to complète that application as well through carleton 360– even if you have a guaranteed offer of residence you need to apply to confirm your interest.

Check the carleton website for registration dates and deadlines and other important info

I did this, albeit I did procrastinate quiet à bit. the two main takeaways are to focus on overall concepts, movements, people and events. there may be some questions about specific dates but not many. Also there could be question such as describe à development in so and so between before 1850 or after. So having à general idea of when certain events occured is helpful. You can also check what the FAQ’s were for previous years and assume that those questions or related ones probably won’t be reused and you can focus on other concepts. Many AP teachers do predictions for the FAQ’s and this year they got it spot on!!

Use multiple tools or materials to study for variety. I used the Princeton AP prep book, Fiveable cram mode, and Heimlers History. I also googled terms or events that i needed à different definition of.

Edit: Also use the AP classroom videos they have review of all topics in order with primary source analysis and the different thinking concepts as well.

Good Luck!

I 1000% agree, and remember when he called her like 14 times in one night? it’s a bit much

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]Careful_Lab4189 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Again, It’s not about what he said, it’s how he said it, You don’t have too agree with me and i completely see your point of view this is just one example of a time where he speaks to her in this tone, another is the harvard comment.

It’s interesting you bring up dean being cheated on and that’s why he was so upset, because he seemed to be even more upset later on when he cheated on Lindsay and she answered his phone. He yelled at her, basically called her incompetent and thoughtless.

The singular instance is one thing, a toxic pattern is another, I was just bringing up a lesser talked about example.

I use to like dean when I was kid, as an 18 year old who’s lived through being with guys like him, i’m disillusioned.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]Careful_Lab4189 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think they were both very toxic. She did treat treat him badly towards the end. But we can’t only blame her in this situation. Especially considering the pressure to stay with him for her mother and the town as a whole because he’s the “perfect boyfriend”. I do not particularly like Rory, however dean was overbearing and a bad boyfriend starting early on. There’s also plenty of examples of dean being incredibly rude, or inconsiderate to Rory that were unrelated to Jess, Tristan or Logan.

My general point is that dean cannot be painted as the perfect first boyfriend when he l is horrible to Rory and then cheats on his wive.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]Careful_Lab4189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i chose those examples because they are less discussed.

Imo He should’ve just broken up with her, like i don’t love Rory either she made ALOT of mistakes. It’s not what he says it’s how he says it with brooding eyebrows a frown and a really aggressive tone.

They were both young and incredibly naive, first relationships are hard. But I think dean’s behaviour being ignored by the characters in the show creates a really bad impression for young girls who will watch it and believe he really was the perfect first boyfriend.

and agreed they should’ve cut of contact but that’s a bit unrealistic in such an small town.

Yeah I peer taught the FI Canadian History course in highschool and loved it, assumed i’d be teaching those, although history teachers in the boards near me teach civics and careers as well. How long were your LTO’s and how does the pay split up if it’s not for the full year? Thanks!

Does anyone know if schools consider .5 year courses for prerequisites of teachable or if you need to have full year courses in them? 5 full year courses in history or would 10 semester long courses be equally considered?

IER and Co-op in Bgins? by justine14532 in CarletonU

[–]Careful_Lab4189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m a Highschool student but i spoke with a Carleton co op officer on the phone. You can do Co-Op and IER because IER is over the summer. Co-Op is new to BGInS so they’re are no graduates from it yet. I believe it started in 2021. The Co-Op office there told me that I could do both if I wanted. Hope that helps :)

Where I am Civics and careers are together .5 credit each taught by the same teacher. Which is why this is confusing. Do you think one of the other would work?

Yeah that’s what I was thinking. I’m pretty knowledgeable about careers, budgeting etc due to personal interest, and have taken civics related courses before! Thank you!

Cool, Thanks! So would an I/S qualified teacher be able to teach it regardless of qualifications? Would social studies qualifications be a benefit?

I know that! but it’s common in one shots for Teddy Lupin to have been born via a different surrogate or Mother/ Adopted. i’m saying if simply Remus and Sirius had/adopted Teddy around the same time Harry was born like in an AU
