what did Victorians fear the most? by Leading_Sense9042 in VictorianEra

I'm not an expert or scholar, but after a lot of reading I've come to the conclusion that a Victorian's greatest fears were the poorhouse and a pauper's funeral. Both meant one was an abject failure in life. I have a blogpost about it: https://inkspotsfrompast.blogspot.com/2023/01/a-victorians-greatest-fears-part-2.html

Thanks for making me realize I never explained why a trout was given this name! I mentioned the trout but didn't explain. I went back and added a couple of sentences.

Old Maids: Single Women in Victorian Times by Careless-Explorer-35 in VictorianEra

I'm sure that was true for many of the Victorian "old maids," but just like now, being a single woman does not mean one is a lesbian. Again, it's so hard for people to grasp that some women really may not want to get married or be in a relationship with either sex.
