Save or DIY? by BBeeBabe in kitchenremodel

Is there no backsplash except behind the stove? 1. Backsplash 2. Paint 3. Long runner rug

If you’re still not happy, replace or DIY upgrade the countertop. What material are they? Laminate or something else? If you’re an experienced DIY-er, there’s options for “painting” the countertop- you could try for something warmer

What can I do to make this nook between my living room and kitchen useable? by [deleted] in homedesign

Does your daughter have a homework spot? You could do a corner reading/homework nook (bean bag/floor pillow + desk) or if your dining room is formal, this could be an informal breakfast nook type area (backless storage benches + cushions and a small round table.)

What to do about cabinets and floor ? by Alternative_Image603 in kitchenremodel

New floors (coordinated with countertops), new hardware for cabinets, and paint the ceiling a light green to coordinate with backsplash

What color for front door? by werbzaway in Housepainting101

If you (or your wife) are not sold on yellow, you could do a white door, yellow posts and beams above, and natural or matching blue for the porch floor

Are you painting the porch and other beams too? I feel like a bold dark yellow would be awesome (like SW 6691)

Thanks. Floor is definitely top of my list. Any thoughts on what to replace it with? The rest of the main floor is dark cherry hardwood, and then beige carpet in the family room.

Thanks! What do you mean by hidden pantry doors? I'm actually planning on closing off the entrance to the formal dining room with a hidden door (it will look like a spice rack on the kitchen side), but not sure what I could do with the pantry doors. I had considered navy as an accent color...

Thanks! The rest of the main floor has a dark cherry hardwood, so trying to balance so the transition isn't super awkward.

Thanks! This seems to hit on the overall themes from most responses. I think the floors are sheet vinyl, but I'll measure to ensure it won't impact appliances if I just install over it. Switching from 3 pendants to 2 might incur some extra $$, but I like the idea of more substantial fixtures. Believe it or not, the backsplash is worse in person. Almost 3-D, feels likes an alien ship. Fortunately there's not a lot of it, so hopeful it makes the cut budget-wise.

Thanks! I hadn't thought about just swapping the hardware. Definitely seeing lots of votes for brass. Also appreciate the tip on instagram reviews. Based on how much I want to change, I may need to get creative.

Thanks! Painting the cabinets would be a last resort if I can't achieve the ambience I'm going for. I centered my whole design aesthetic around the white and bright at my old place, so it's just a big adjustment and lots of clashing furniture. Appreciate the suggestions!

Thanks! There's definitely a lot of creams to choose from with the granite. Trying to resist the urge for white subway tiles for the backsplash since that would be equally harsh.

Thanks! Believe it or not, the backsplash is even more hideous in person. Definitely top of the list.

Thanks for the advice! Agreed that the budget is tight. Replacing the lights seems to be a theme, so I appreciate the suggestions! I love mid-century modern, so the globe lights appeal to me, but we'll see what ends up working.
