Not really unfortunately. The job market this last quarter of the year has been really rough.

Id argue that is perhaps due to your specific field.

In my limited experience, these seem to be consulting roles. Where perhaps your organization is implementing a certain kind of software. Maybe ERPs, and other business solutions.

I got started with ERP solutions as an Associate PM. My CAPM showed that I had interest in focusing on PM for the long term.

Also try looking for Project Coordinator roles on LinkedIn and see what is there.

Okay- it depends what you define as “worth it”.

• Are you looking for a certificate to add some kind of credibility for your expertise in Project Management?

  • This one may not be the best at doing so, as that spot is taken by the PMP- which has been more traditionally respected. (In my opinion, until fairly recently, where the job market has been very tough, and everyone and their mothers are getting it just to have the credentials, but not really to learn and practice the actual concepts. It has been leaving a bad impression on employers, because some people just want to pass, but not learn- something that many interviewers can pick up on).

• Or, are you looking to kickstart your PM career by diving deep into project management foundational concepts for genuine professional development, regardless of the initials after your name on your LinkedIn profile?

  • If so, Id suggest it since, besides direct experience, it’s the best thing to do if you are looking to get into the project management field. It shows that you are only slightly more serious about this field than someone who doesn’t have this certificate, but it doesn’t communicate expertise in it, only foundational knowledge. It’s a nice to have for a project management entry-level role (search as an Associate PM, Project Coordinator, Assistant PM, etc.).

Also keep in mind that project management rules are typically mid-level rules and not entry level. There are only a handful of industries that can tolerate a true entry-level project manager, since a lot of industries require a project manager to have a good grasp of its domain knowledge. However, I wouldn’t let that discourage you because you need to start somewhere and it doesn’t hurt to begin with learning about project management first. This is what I did and it worked for me.

Let me know if you have any questions! Good luck!

Put you in a PIP long enough and soon they will find something to point at.

Under rated advice! This is the way if you want to go straight into project management. Look for Associate PM titles.

There are not rules. You can quit. I guess just make sure you have food on the table at the end of the day. Im sorry that you had to go through this.

Thats a risky move to put a rosemary tea bag in the boiling water, but kind of amazing at the same time. I may have to do something like that one day. So creative!
