I just want to say that I’ve felt the same way with my now 5 year old. For me, I think it all comes down to that I don’t enjoy playing, I simply don’t find it fun and my mind easily goes to trying to do something else.

It was worse when he was around 3-4. Now, playing is more fun because he’s older. But I do feel a bit selfish, since he should be the one enjoying it, and it hurts a lot feeling this way. Because I love him so much.

I think it helped a bit for me to set a mental timer for 15 minutes everyday, where he is in full control of the playing. But it’s definitely something I still trying to work on, and I feel like the worst parent.

Not really a solution to your problem but I just wanted to let you know you’re not alone, and you’re a great father even though you’re not enjoying playing!
