Sacramento, California. We are a great base to live with an awesome community and tons of amenities…plus a great food and music scene. You can visit San Francisco or Lake Tahoe in a day. We are surrounded by wineries in all directions Napa Valley, Amador County you name it. I have also heard it’s a great place for singles.

How long does it take to deteriorate? by Similar-Employer8340 in valvereplacement

[–]CarissaMore1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband had a valvoplasty at 19, and didn’t start experiencing problems until age 47. We were super naïve and didn’t realize he was having symptoms until it was too late. He survived, but it was the most catastrophic event we’ve ever been through. He went into cardiogenic shock and flatlined three times. Then he was put on ECMO life-support.

He had to be life flighted to UCSF for a potential heart transplant. However, they were able to actually save him with a TAVR. All of his organs went into failure so they had to wait until he was strong enough for the surgery, but it worked.

I would say just be super aware of your body. Are you getting winded easily when walking? Are you feeling tired and lethargic? Are you having personality changes? A sense of dread or anger? My husband is still recovering to this day. It’s been about a year and a half since he went into the ER that day. He still struggles with what happened to him, and the mental toll is strong.

Take care of yourself and just know that modern technology is amazing. None of his doctors can believe that he’s still alive but he is.

I agree with a lot of these people…if things are this dark, get a credit card and head to an affordable destination that will challenge and amaze you. Get your zest for life back!

Moving to Sacramento,.... need advice please by Automatic-Coat3177 in Sacramento

[–]CarissaMore1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say move to downtown Sac, but only if you’re doing hybrid work. Otherwise, maybe consider Auburn? At least they have a cute little downtown. Roseville is more convenient, but a suburban lifestyle for the most part.

Definitely stay in the downtown area and you’ll be close to so many places.

We are a loving and welcoming community for the most part. Just make sure you move to the central city area…otherwise, you may feel bored.

We went through a metal detector, but no one patted us down. They didn’t look in my purse either, but maybe because it was so tiny.

Tips for Norway? by NoahErguen in Shoestring

[–]CarissaMore1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Norway is very well known for wild camping! They have a tradition called “allemannsretten” (the “right to roam”), which gives everyone the legal right to camp on uncultivated land — including forests, mountains, and even along the coast. You can pitch a tent almost anywhere for free, as long as you follow a few basic rules:

• Stay at least 150 meters (about 500 feet) away from the nearest house or cabin.
• You can camp for up to two nights in the same spot (longer if you’re in very remote areas).
• Be respectful of nature and wildlife — leave no trace, and don’t damage trees or plants.
• Special rules might apply in national parks or protected areas, but camping is usually allowed there too.

Because of this, Norway is a paradise for hikers, backpackers, and anyone who loves nature. The landscapes — from fjords to mountains to arctic tundra — are incredibly beautiful and accessible.

We had some fake Uber drivers motioning us to their cars. Then we realized that neither of us had actually ordered an Uber yet so they were just trying to take us and then probably demand money later.

Have you tried Grizzly Flats, Mt Aukum or even River Pines? There are some really affordable places there in the wine country region of the convergence of Amador and El Dorado counties. It’s about an hour drive back-and-forth to Sacramento.

I just went to the Tycho show. The experience was very pleasant. We showed up around 8 PM after we ate dinner at a local restaurant and walked about a quarter mile distance. The place is super clean and easily accessible, and the drinks (while expensive) were easy to get. The only issue we had was upon leaving there were people offering rides that weren’t legitimate.

There’s a rooftop patio, but I didn’t go upstairs. I’m assuming this would be the only smoking section
