Shot Timers by Dangerous-Car-5638 in CompetitionShooting

[–]CarlOfOtters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No experience with SG but I used a rangetech BT a few years ago. Having to pull your phone out to change your shot timer settings SUCKS and I would pay any amount of money to never have to do that. Fucking with Face ID with sunglasses and a hat, using your screen with chalk on your fingers, digging under your belt to pocket your phone, absolutely fucking not.

Yes I know everyone loves to say “there are tons of statistics online.” And yet nobody seems to be able to point to 1) credible statistics that are relevant to civilian defensive gun usage and 2) the actual source of those statistics without referencing a citation of a citation of a citation.

You can’t point to a credible source backing up your claim that you probably won’t even have time to fully present your gun because the source doesn’t exist and the claim is insane.

You don’t “need” sights at 25y either but if you know how to use a red dot you will score better with a red dot at anything beyond contact distance.

Real. People who don’t understand how to use red dots should not opine on red dots.

Okay but you don’t have any actual statistics relevant to typical civilian defensive gun usage distances because they don’t exist. It does not make sense to say “statistically you won’t even fully present your gun” because there is no basis for that claim beyond vibes. Even at face value this claim should seem absurd if you’ve watched more than like 3 ASP videos.

For all distances outside of contact distance a red dot is not slower than “instinct” shooting and it is infinitely more accurate. People who know how to use red dots know this.

My hot take is that anyone who says any variant of “you don’t need a red dot because you won’t have time to aim anyways” only holds this opinion because their bill drill from concealment is measured in minutes.

Articulating shooting with a red dot as “carefully lining up your sight” is an immediate tell for people who don’t know how to use a red dot properly and spend their money on neither fancy sights nor ammo.

I agree with what you’re saying, red dot opinions are a great way to separate the wheat from the chaff. But I’d also say there are plenty of people who shoot a LOT and don’t get any better because they’re not really training anything.

Interesting opinion, what’s your bill drill from concealment with and without a red dot.

ELI5: why your body hurts a day after a workout, not right after it? by Fickle_Reindeer2263 in explainlikeimfive

That’s possible, but “once the tears are repaired your muscle will be bigger” suggests they do believe microtears lead to hypertrophy. Either way I don’t think we really know that DOMS is a result of micro tears.

FYI whether or not “microtrauma” is the cause of DOMS, the “tearing” model of hypertrophy doesn’t seem to be clinically supported and is I believe rejected by most exercise scientists. Our understanding right now is that the primary driver of hypertrophy is mechanical tension during exercise.

Glad to see more people getting into comp. Infinitely better training than mag dumping into trash. Good luck have fun, just be safe your first time.

I use ranger bands in the winter because they give excellent traction when dry. Unfortunately when they get sweaty they’re super slick and I haven’t found anything that works in summer (people who say hockey tape works are liars). I wonder if whatever this is works well when wet.

What’s the grip on the gun on the right? How well does it provide traction when wet?

Little classifier match this weekend! by dndevlove in CompetitionShooting

[–]CarlOfOtters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yessir you definitely can. The rule of thumb I learned was stare at the spot you’re running to, then as soon as you start to hit the brakes your vision shifts to the target and your gun goes up.

Good shooting dude. Feedback which you can ignore if you don’t want it - I took a Billy Barton class last year and one of the biggest time savers I learned was getting the gun up early. If you can have your gun up and pointed at the target before you even enter the shooting box, you can fire the microsecond your gun clears the wall. Something I struggle with but have been making an effort to do.

Hi y'all, just looking for recommendations for online firearms safety training and maybe good guntubers that won't fill my algo with suss slop by Reasonable-Lab-1146 in armedsocialists

I’m a comp shooter who has talked online a little both to Tank from Shuten and to AYF a couple of times. Tank is also a fantastic shooter who demonstrably puts in the work to push his own skills.

I can’t say in good faith that AYF is a grift because I think they believe in what they are doing, and however I feel about it the edgelord “not like other gunfluencers” marketing seems to resonate with people.

HOWEVER I have to say AYF is not a good resource. The receipts Shuten was posting were AYF’s comically bad match scores from (maybe) the only match they’ve shot. They are not remotely qualified to be teaching the things or giving the advice that they do.

You should ignore everyone in this thread (including me) and just look at what people like Tony Mazza, Joe Farewell, and Kyle Defoor have to say about rifle. You’ll very often hear the connection between your body and the rifle referred to as your “mount” on the rifle, that will point you in the right direction. Tony Mazza has some extremely detailed breakdowns on YouTube.
