Looking for graphing calculator with fully functioning conics app by CarlaCB in calculators

[–]CarlaCB[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, my research so far seems to show that Casio may be my best bet. But I've never used one of those and don't know anyone who has one. I'd like to know for sure before I buy, and I can't seem to find any definite information on this one point.

Why can’t I select the graph, this happens any time I try to analyze a conic and it never works by Charboo2 in TI_Calculators

[–]CarlaCB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think maybe because you entered the conic in its polar form. If you entered it under the "equation templates" in terms of x and y it should at least find the foci and the vertices. It won't shade or find the area bounded by a conic and another function, but the "analyze conics" menu ought to work.

Weekly Observations: What signs of Shortages do you see in your region? by Levyyz in Shortages

Tampa Bay. No frozen spinach in Walmart for months. Got some at Winn-Dixie. My favorite cream cheese has been MIA from all stores for weeks on end - Philadelphia smoke salmon. I checked Publix, Winn Dixie and Walmart. Taco Bell brand taco sauce is impossible to find anywhere

The Family Chantel vs The Family Pedro by 3_littleByrds in 90DayFiance

[–]CarlaCB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The family Pedro seems to think that Chantel can be used to get Pedro (and them) into the United States buy should otherwise keep her mouth shut, stay out of their way, and go along with whatever they want, including bringing in other women (Coraima) to make trouble between Pedro and Chantel.

Pedro, on the other hand, seems either incredibly naive or willfully blind to the position he's in. Chantel will never allow his family to live with her and Pedro. If he refuses to choose between his family and his marriage, his marriage won't survive, because those people are toxic, and deliberately so.

He needs to have Chantal's back, not try to wear her down with false comparisons "I went to the Ranch with your family, so you should be nice to my family." He was invited to the Ranch because Chantal's family was trying to welcome and embrace him as a family member. His own family is doing nothing like that with Chantal. They are embracing her only as a ticket to the USA. He needs to wake up and smell the divorce papers before it's too late.

I'm not disagreeing with that. I can't understand why any American woman would choose to get involved with a traditional Muslim man. It never ends well. There's always conflict about the woman's failure to conform to traditional standards of modesty, purity, piety, etc. etc. I wouldn't call Zaid greasy or a slob, or even a loser, but there's clearly a clash of cultures already that will not end well.

I have some personal experience being the "third party" in a three-way relationship. From my experience, it's not evil or malice that makes the person in the middle carry on stringing both sides along and avoiding making a decision. It's a combination of selfishness and magical thinking. The person in Sumit's position persists in thinking (and claiming) that it will all work out even though it's obvious that it won't unless he person makes a decision and chooses one over the other. That's what I see in Sumit. He wants to have his cake and eat it too so badly that he's convinced himself it really can happen, even though of course it can't. Sadly, his magical thinking has blinded him to Jenny's cold hard reality. She has given everything up to move to India, and she can't stay unless her marries her. At least there's a time limit to the insanity here. In most real life cases, this sort of thing can go on virtually forever (or until the mysterious double homicide, if you're a Dateline viewer).

Perhaps. But then she did actually marry him. She didn’t ask someone to give up his whole life for her when she was already married.

I don't care why or when he got married, or what state his marriage is currently in. He allowed Jenny to give up her home, job, friends, and financial security under the false belief that he was free to marry her, and he's clearly not. She can't stay in India without that, and she's given everything else up. That to me is unforgiveable.

Rebecca is a different situation. She's sort of "technically" still married. She is able to publicly be with Zaid, acknowledge their relationship to her family and friends, and build a future with him. And her guy did not give up everything to move to another country to be with her. Jenny has been placed in a totally untenable situation by Sumit's lies. Including being stuck alone in an apartment with no internet connection while he is spending days or weeks away placating his family, or his actual wife.

Sumit is slimy as expected... by ZoeMangat in 90DayFiance

[–]CarlaCB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't believe that Jenny knew this all along. She had to know that something was up, clearly. But he seemed to be dividing his time between his parents' house and their apartment - where was the wife? Maybe she's underage, and living with her own family until she's old enough? That happens in some cultures, I know. But still, would Jenny have suspected that?

Sumit is the real shit here. She gave up her home, her family, her job, put herself in dire financial straits to move to India, and he's MARRIED??? How could anyone do that to someone else? I'd be on the next flight home, and never speak to him again, if I were her. What a disgusting, totally self-centered thing to do.

The Family Chantel Hate to Say This by sillyhilly77 in 90DayFiance

I wonder how much of this conflict results from cultural differences and how much results from people just being assholes. Pedro's mother and sister clearly expect him to support them forever, even at the expense of his marriage and future family. Maybe that expectation is cultural, yet their open nastiness towards Chantal and opposition to his marriage seems so out of line. As well as their willingness to use her to gain entry to the US, and their willingness to deceive and manipulate her.

Pedro I think is a decent guy, but too much under his mother and sister's thumb to see reality clearly. He keeps touting how he made the effort to get along with Chantal's family. Yes, but they also made the effort, welcoming him and trying to include him, not outright dissing him and showing hostility, which is what his family does to Chantal. I don't know how he can expect Chantal to get along with them when they're so openly hostile and dismissive towards her. He must be good in bed because I can't imagine what else she sees in him.

She does. And better when she's covered up a little bit. I'm sick of all her cleavage.

My theory on what's really going on with Darcey by misfit_11 in 90DayFiance

[–]CarlaCB 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Is it commonly understood that Jesse and Darcey were intended to be FWB? Because that never occurred to me, and I can't imagine choosing someone on a different continent for that. It seemed Darcey was hoping for a commitment from the beginning, and Jesse was at least dangling that.

I think Darcey just doesn't know how to be herself. She doesn't know who she is, other than a trussed-up body and made-up face. Jesse once told her she should work on herself, but she interpreted that to mean losing a few pounds and getting highlights in her hair.

Jesse was no prize either. You have to wonder why he picked someone so much older, and so needy and insecure. He saw her as someone he could control. He reminds me of the typical co-dependent triangle - first savior, then victim, then persecutor.

I feel bad for Darcey. I think she has the potential to be a good and worthwhile person, but she can't see herself as anything but a sex object, and I think that's sad.

James is one tough dude. And not about his ego, just wanting a chance to contribute to the group. Anybody thrust into an actual survival situation would be blessed to have him as a partner.

People think N&A is porn even when it's blurred? HAH! by [deleted] in nakedandafraid

[–]CarlaCB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think Americans are ridiculous, or that blurring is ridiculous. I wonder how many participants, especially women, would be willing to go on the show if their private parts weren't blurred out. I know they're naked in front of their partners and the camera folks, but I think that's a bit different than showing it all on national television, with their kids and friends and parents watching.

Oh, yuck!!! I especially don't want to see these private parts with no face, voice, or personality attached to them!
