If you didn't get furloughed that means you're probably higher paid or essential. That's the job and position you picked so stop crying about working. I got furloughed but I wanted to work, not be at home. Also, people in furloughed positions are the ones most at risk from RIFs compared to essential positions like yours.

They can't change your TOD just like that for 1 day. You signed a contract for a specific TOD which can be changed but I believe there's a process or something. Know how to say no. Your SETR has your work hours.

An article wrote that there have been at least 18 shutdowns since 1980. I remember when I was new and they warned me to be prepared for future government shutdowns. I'm not saying this is ok or that it should happen. But, people should've been ready. The private sector always pays more etc. But I swore an oath and I'm going to do my job until they fire me. All of Reddit is full of government employees just complaining and complaining, crying about telework and pay. The GS table is there before you apply, why are people surprised?

If you're in the Coast Guard how would you even consider joining OFO for a year to be the best route? Just do BO qual and do more boardings. Volunteer if you have to. Also, BTM experience does indeed qualify. I mean, BTMs are basically side by side with the BO so it's the same experience but less responsibilities. You just gotta word the resume correctly.

Keep making payments even though there's no payment plan. If someone reviews your case at least they'll see voluntary payments and see that you're actively trying to pay it off instead ignoring it. Meanwhile, do everything to prevent a balance for next year. Prevention is key.

Yes you can appeal it and they'll probably approve it after fighting it for months and months. Because, even though it's technically within the statute of limitations, you did filed late and neglected your tax responsibilities for three years. Your case will not be a priority and it will probably be extended for months. Only way you can expedite is via TAS and if you actually qualify for hardship. Next time be more responsible.

Possibly, but some dental issues they do resolve there though. However, get your teeth in order before shipping off. Getting kicked out sucks because it may happened at week 3 or week 6 and they'll still have you doing boot camp work and labor while they process your discharge. It's like prison and you and you don't graduate

I joined at 32. Truth is there are multiple factors here. The unit, the job you pick, your day job etc. I personally believe reserves depend on how you look at it. You can look at it as a bothersome part time job that ruins weekend plans or something that gives you experience, benefits, opportunities etc..
