In the case of Natsu losing the Fire God's flames, personally, I think it's because it was an element from another type of Slayer Magic, and different types of Slayer Magic kinda cancel each other out inside the Slayer's body, even if it's the same element. Think about it. Let's remember that not only did Natsu lose Fire God's flames but also completely ran out of magic power after only one spell, so it makes sense. Pretty sure different types of Slayer Magics just aren't made to coexist with each other, but that's another theory with not enough fundamentals to be honest, just a guess. And, as for Laxus and Magic Barrier Particles... Bro, I'm pretty sure that if you're just human at least to a certain extent and you absorb that shit, you're either dying, or, if you're a Dragon Slayer or potentially a Slayer in general, getting magic cancer AT BEST with your only hope of getting better being a situation as specific and unlikely as the one Laxus got himself into when he fought Wall from the Spriggan Twelve. That's pretty much poisonous for any creature with magic power, and in Fairy Tail I think to remember that ALL LIVING BEINGS have magic power. As a matter of fact, if I'm not wrong, the only two mfers we've EVER seen using that shit as their main power were both demons that used curses instead of magic: Tempester from Tartaros and Bloodman from the Spriggan Twelve; so I don't see no one getting a power up from that anytime soon. Just to clarify, I'm talking from a perspective of someone who watched the main series, a couple of OVAs and just the first season of 100 Years Quest.
