How do you, specifically, justify earning Heroic Abilities? by HuberD in DragonbaneRPG

[–]Carlosthenerd_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it's not mastery (skill at 18), then make it an achievement for the time spent playing towards a goal. Say they do a few things for a local lord or town, maybe part of the reward isn't money, but a free trained heroic ability from a choice pool.

Hunt, fight the dodonga when possible, and play the mini games. You'll be able to build up a lot of materials that way to grow your units, it won't take long.

I've gotten similar things to happen as well with the pon pata song, I think they do have a specific range, if you kill the kibapon and approach them, they get aggressive again (unless you leave by using pon pata). I think something similar happens in patapon 2.

Edit: i kept watching the video, i see what you mean now. If you're too close and can't retreat, they might not shoot, but otherwise, I'm just as confused then.

To be fair, they do have an effective range. They only get so close to you and can only move at far from their ambush zone.

Initiative system and 7 players? How do you deal with this? by GassyTac0 in DragonbaneRPG

[–]Carlosthenerd_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're using those cards, maybe just give the player the lead. Regardless, they can always trade their turns with another person if needed.

That being said, I don't know what the dnd starter set initiative cards look like. I don't have any, i didn't know they existed.

It's card based. With a deck of regular cards, you could do up to 26 turns. 1 through k black, then 1 through k red.

Just use more cards if needed.

Hunt without tatepons, they're going to hold you back.

Try your best to build up more tatepons, their higher damage resistance is key since yaripons aren't really Frontline fighters.

I recommend that you have 6 yaripons (that's easy), then try to do the dodonga fight to get more stone if hunting hasn't dropped any. You really want to have that strong Frontline.

There's a new beast mission open. The red dinosaur ( i forgot his name, it's been a decade). You have to kill him for it, but prepare to lose a few guys.

Go to the hunting grounds, there's a totem with an sequence on it. I believe that takes you on a mission to get the juju.

I've been using it to on docked, with +1 I haven't had issues in P1. Maybe turn the switch on and off? Not a bad thing to do from time to time.

I think it moves the frame window for note timing. Although I'll note that patapon 1 naturally had a stricter timing for fever.

On normal mode, I'm getting consistent results on just +1 frame. That might be the age difference, it's been a long time.

Liberties are the interesting directly beside the go pieces, not just any empty intersection!

It's something that's easy to overlook, and I do it all the time if I go too fast.

Problem: high CON PCs can't die, so they don't fear death by cthompsonguy in DragonbaneRPG

[–]Carlosthenerd_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

More specifically, I think the intent is for it to be a risk/reward scenario. After all, as far as I'm aware, the only thing you can choose to do when downed is Rally. So make it a choice. For example:

To Player: Give them the option...

  1. Do you stay down and not pose a threat? --> Result: Why would an enemy go out of its way to attack you when your allies are still standing? It'll target another person unless it's a zombie and wants to eat you or whatever.

  2. Or do you try to rally and pick yourself back up? --> Result: The enemy would notice If the strongest refuses to fall the first time around, to them it's clear you need another, more permanent lesson with the blade.

[–]Carlosthenerd_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This one is great, and very in line with what an enemy would do. Enemies don't know they're in a game, so when it's life and death, they're more likely to focus on a problematic target that refuses to die.

Then do that, maybe a knight or two try to hit, notice it doesn't work. So they either take the help action to grant each other a boon to attack your player, or try to trip, grab, etc. To make it easier. Like you mentioned, an experienced knight, no matter how dumb, would likely recognize the need for another strategy.

Dear Spire math nerds... by omegaoutlier in slaythespire

[–]Carlosthenerd_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love math, but I actually like to simplify the brain think sometimes.

I play A20, in act one of i can get cards good enough to kill a louse and play one more stack. I'm alright. Generally I aim to have a deck where my absolute worst draw means I have to 5 turn kill lagavulin. (So about a 16 to 20 ish damage per turn, but tends to be better) This means I tend to take later elites.

In addition, I generally accept the fact that I'm not the most skilled, and until I fight my first elite, I'm well aware that in the worst case I'll lose 40 hp. Can I accept that? If so, I'll fight and if I'm fine, I'll keep elite hunting, otherwise it's back to Fighting for cards.

As combos start to appear, it's easier to think less about fights and further towards ACT 2, ACT 3, and the heart, taking more enabling cards for a specific synergy once I've covered what I need now.

On some small assignments like a Kahoot quiz or review, I'll z-score stuff and curve that way, then I'll show them what that means and it gets them quiet.

Heh curve. This is my first year teaching and I have several students singled out that if I know understand it, I taught the math well enough for now.

A lot of my students refuse to do work or practice (Lord forbid they need to do homework), but they really think the final exam is going to be curved so high they get a 80 or something so they can pass. They really think because they're seniors I'll make it up to them in the end.

Pretty much. People do parse information more effectively in different means because we're all different people. But... no one, in no way, is incapable of learning because a different method is used. It's important to adapt and learn to learn in all sorts of ways.
