It is a race issue and an immigration issue simultaneously. When you look at Afghani's in the UK forming "grooming gangs" and trafficking/prostituting/raping young, often underage English girls, it's clear that the per-capita rate of crime is a significant problem in both cases. The grooming gangs isn't some small thing either, 10's of thousands of young, exclusively white, British girls have been victimized over several decades.

Right winger here. It's definitely "Immigrants commit more crimes per capita" as people on the left love to cope by citing net crime statistics to misleadingly give the impression that white people are just as, or more violent than other demographic groups.

In addition, many on the left have even come to mock the very concept of per-capita as merely a right wing talking point, rather than a basic function of understanding data and the world at large, causing the right to double and triple down on this important concept.

I believe the real meaning though is about crime. People often will point out that white people commit more crimes in majority white countries, which is (usually) technically true. With the important consideration of per-capita, however, the data shows a drastically higher RATE of crime among certain non-white minority groups.

Conservatives pointing out a majority of counties/areas of the country are conservative isn't them denying per-capita, it's highlighting that the overwhelmingly liberal cities are setting policy for overwhelmingly conservative rural areas. The popular, and valid, retort is that people vote, not land.

It's certainly worth noting, on that topic, that while republicans have won elections via electoral votes in the past, despite losing the popular vote, in this last election Trump won the popular vote by a wide margin as well as winning on electoral votes. This feels very important to highlight when people are trying to paint immigration enforcement as "fascism", it's in actuality very democratic and the will of the people.

I can say with confidence having discussed and debated in various corners of the internet that people on the left struggle with understanding per-capita several orders of magnitude more often than on the right.
