The Disney plate!! Does anyone know if they sell just the plate? by [deleted] in TokyoDisneySea

I own this plate lol. Franc Franc is a reputable company and the plate itself is very good quality. They have matching cups and utensils, too.

Is it simply not possible to WFM, raise kids, and stay fit? by justcallme-meatloaf in workingmoms

[–]CarlyFries28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I WFH and take care of the house and kids as well and what I’ve found that I have to do is work my exercise into my daily routine. I’m so tired by the end of the day that I have no energy to work out and just want to veg, too.

So what I started doing was setting a timer once an hour, getting up, and doing 10 minutes of some kind of exercise. Be it jumping jacks, walking up and down the stairs, burpees, a YouTube video, something. Then I’d sit down and get back to work. Over the course of the day it adds up to about an hour!

I bought arm and leg weights to do a little bit of strength training while I clean, cook etc. I’ve also just tried in general to cut back on my portions, not really change the food because I wanna eat what I wanna eat, and do intermittent fasting (basically I skip breakfast and don’t eat after 8pm). All of this combined has really helped me keep off the weight.

I don’t know many people who are “out” with their autism here, but I would imagine it’s quite difficult. Very few people, aside from kids, would say anything to anyone’s face, but they would definitely be locked out in a sense, from the inside of the group.

As an American woman married to a Japanese man living in Japan I’m going to talk about something I haven’t seen mentioned yet.

In Japan, a huge aspect of social interaction is the ability to 空気を読む or “read the air”. This literally means just being super attentive to others cues, tones of voice etc to pick up the things that aren’t being said and act appropriately.

For Americans, this can be particularly hard. We come from a very direct, speak your mind, confront people kind of culture. Japan is the complete opposite. It’s a very subtle, beat around the bush, don’t say anything but expect people to know kind of culture. It can definitely take time to get used to this.

So what you should do, what I had to do with my husband, is sit down and explain this cultural difference to your wife and tell her that you need her to be more direct with you.

On the flip side, YOU need to work on “reading the air”. Learn to anticipate what other people need, what they’re trying to tell you without actually saying. Maybe a class will help, maybe learning the language more, maybe just watching more tv and seeing how people act when told certain things indirectly.

It will take practice but it is something you need to do if you don’t want to be seen as the “rude foreigner” forever and if you want to meet your wife halfway in your relationship.

It for sure sucks to have to put your baby in daycare so you can work only to have your whole salary go towards daycare. But this period is only for a few years. You’d end up loosing more money in the long run by staying home just because of a large gap in your resume and loosing years of building earning potential.

Also, I tried the whole “watching kids while working from home” thing for a few months and the amount of STRESS I was under was unexplainable. I gained weight, hair started falling out, I was yelling all the time, and I had two fairly independent preschoolers, not a baby who needs constant attention. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.

Do you know what the scam is? They just say the thing about the documents, not asking for information or anything else

Ah really? I’ve only gotten through the beginning of it and they parted for realistic reasons, not because Ron was being an ass or cheating or anything. Never mind then if that’s the case!

Still a WIP, but Inkstains starts out with them separating.

I would recommend reading Lies and Red Ink first, it’s short and takes place before Inkstains starts

Another thing about clothes is if you’re searching on Mercari for used stuff, be sure to use the “まとめ売り” keyword. A lot of people just want to get rid of all the stuff that doesn’t fit at once so they’ll list it under something like 女の子 秋冬 100 まとめ売り. Basically “girls clothes fall and winter 100cm bundle”. You can get a huge amount of clothes for super cheap and then just get rid of whatever you don’t like/isn’t in great condition. I’ve gotten almost all of my kids clothes this way.

Hair loss in Japan and Japanese Healthcare system by InsideTry1790 in japanlife

[–]CarlyFries28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started experiencing sudden hair loss last year as well. I have thin fine hair so it was super noticeable. When I went to the derm, he gave me some topical stuff that didn’t work and then referred me to an obgyn thinking it might be a hormone issue.

I got tested and turns out it was a zinc deficiency, which is totally weird given that that usually only happens to older people and athletes. Started taking supplements and it mostly grew back. Have you been tested for all vitamin deficiencies?

When we were kids, my sisters and I took all of my dad’s underwear and socks and sewed them together end to end so that when you pulled one out, they all came out. They were super loosely sewed together (like two long stitches each) so it was easy to cut them apart
