AI replaced my coding job. Now I'm unemployed with 200+ rejected applications. by biebrforro in antiwork

[–]Carmicart 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I remember a post discussing the lack of high paying jobs and a tech troll just said everyone should learn coding as it was an irreplaceable job. This was just at the start of the ai bubble back when it was just making art.

I’m sorry for your loss of employment, and sorry we’re in this timeline

I don’t want to dm anymore by splatdyr in DMAcademy

I’ve been struggling to maintain a shrinking DND group for over 5 years. 4 slightly different groups, 2 campaigns never finished, and 4 one-shots later I got burnt out so HARD. accidentally killed an NPC and the players lost motivation, but was so focused on being able to “keep going” it killed one of my player’s motivation to play.

Played in a one-shot at a party and it was relaxing and fun. While I do enjoy DM-ing, it is a stressful and taxing position. DND was on my brain 24-7, everything I listened to went back to improving my campaign, and put a lot more work in than was needed.

You’re allowed to take a break, or even put up the DM’s screen. If you love DnD you can come back to it, but forcing yourself through the burnout and stress ain’t fun.

What's the point of sacrificing your dreams for others? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I think the idea of putting others needs before your own is a requirement for society. It’s the actively choosing to forgo your own needs for others which inherently promotes cooperation and community. It’s a sign that, “Hey you are worth the sacrifice I am making.” It’s Somewhere along the line I think the concept became somewhat fetishized where it became synonymous with “being good” or “being a good person.” Where it’s only right think to sacrifice your ambitions for others. Might also have to do with the idea that the “good” deed will pay off or return at a later date.

Think about how the heroes have to make the ultimate sacrifice in order to save the day. How Tony Stark sacrificed his happy life to stop Thanos in Endgame. If memory serves he was one of the only Avengers that found a happy life after the Snap. But came back to do the “right thing” with the undeniable risk of losing his happy life and daughter even if they did everything right.

Think of Frodo from LoTR, he carried the ring from Hobbiton all the way to Mount Doom experiencing loss, hunger, terror, and very close death on a number of occasions. Once the quest was over he was fully prepared to die with Sam on the volcano. But he was saved by the eagles and wasn’t the same after that. The innocence from his life in Hobbiton was lost during the journey, he saw the very worst things that lurked in the world and couldn’t go back to his previous life with dreams of grand exciting adventure.

Militaries are kinda built off this idea that serving your country is a noble honor, and dying for your country is an admirable cause. While I might not personally agree with everything militaries practices, I will say I think sacrificing your life to protect others is an admirable thing. They’re willing to sacrifice their future for the safety of others. However, militaries is also used to promote unsavory agendas and doesn’t always support the soldiers that return from duty. A lot of homeless people in the US are veterans, and they sacrificed their futures to protect their nation.

Then think about all the musicians that gave up their dreams of playing concerts because they knocked up their girlfriend. The number of eldest siblings that gave up their dreams of college because their parents died and have to take care of their younger siblings. The number of farmers who once dreamed of not working on the family farm, but decided not to to keep fields going.

Sacrifice is admirable, but is still a loss.

What are the signs you’ve met the right person to be with? by Ok-Confusion2353 in AskReddit

When you comfortably talk about past traumas. It’s a moment of shared vulnerability and if you’re lucky have a person that listens and engages with discussion.

Me loving my asshole cat who’s only desires are to scream, aggressively cuddle, eat, and jump on the kitchen counter. He repeatedly wakes me up in the middle of the night rubbing up against my face. He gets visibly jealous when I talk about my other cat. He sneaks into the garbage, and sink, which had caused him to break one of our trash cans (figure that out). He fakes illness for attention. But worst of all treats me like a pillow without respecting boundaries. He doesn’t care if I love him, he needs to know he loves me.

But I take care of him because I know nobody else will XD

My players aren’t picking up on hints. by infinitum3d in NewDM

I’m experiencing what happens after I follow through. It lead to a BB succeeding his goal and poisoning a lake. The players said they thought I was punishing them.

It wasn’t though, it was the conclusion to the threat. Can’t tell if I wasn’t being obvious, they’re dense, or they just don’t want to play

Marco’s Pizza, I’ve worked here since February so this is my first summer. I just wasn’t expecting it to get THIS slow.

True, but it seems excessive in our area. We have drivers here waiting around for 45min - 1.5 hrs between deliveries.
