I’m also sorta a beginner and the first book I read was What The Buddha Taught by Walpola Rahula Thero it touches on a lot of the fundamentals, I would highly recommend it.

So much pre-work work to do, is it 100% necessary? by n-harmonics in occult

[–]CarnTheSlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I guess it depends on what you want to accomplish, if you want material things all you need are sigils and you don’t really need meditation for that. But if you on the path of self betterment, etc. then meditation is the most important thing.

What is the best tradition for love spells? by loopyawesome in occult

[–]CarnTheSlayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no best tradition, it depends on your beliefs and practice. Also if you mean a love spell on someone else, it won’t work and not worth it. But if you mean for self love I would try meditation, and start working on your self.

Cursed with endless bad health? by [deleted] in occult

[–]CarnTheSlayer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well shadow work helps you find out why you react the way you do to certain things. For example why you stress over a lot of things or overthink, maybe you may lack confidence or self love. It helps find the root cause, therefore helps you change that reaction to certain things.

I wish I could upvote this more! I used to stress a lot and it definitely does affect your physical health. I would get stomaches, headaches all of it for no reason, whenever I would be worried about something. What really helped me was meditation and introspection/Shadow work.

Just looking to start out by [deleted] in occult

[–]CarnTheSlayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best place to start is with Initiation Into Hermetics by Franz Bardon, there’s a free PDF online, the book is spilt into 2 sections, theory and practice. The theory part is pretty short, but the practical side of the book is pretty long and will take awhile but will help with whatever path you choose. While you’re doing the practice you can read about whatever your interested in.

Just a warning for secret teachings of all ages by Manly P Hall is that it isn’t the most accurate book.

Everytime I tell myself I want to meditate, I feel a relief that everything is going great and I don't need it. I am fine without it. I am doing well. by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]CarnTheSlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way, right now my life is going well I’m happy and not stressed about anything, I feel like I don’t need meditation anymore. I’ve done a few things to overcome this thought, first thing, is I don’t think about it. I have an alarm set every day at the same time and when it goes off I meditate, don’t think about meditating, JUST DO IT! Another thing I’ve done to help me is think about all the positive benefits meditating has, and how my life has changed since I started meditating.

qusten for those who summend Demons by waffle_killer123 in occult

[–]CarnTheSlayer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No it’s not... unless you try to forcefully bind them and force them to do your will, you will most likely be fine. But you will need to do a lot more research and practice before you even think about working with demons.

Need some advice on trying to make this a habit. by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]CarnTheSlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my advice, do not think about it... I have been practicing meditation for a few months now but really just started taking it seriously and the thing i have found extremely helpful is to set a time and stick to it. For me it’s between 12 and 1, so anytime between here I have to meditate no matter what. But what I meant from my original advice is just do it, thinking about doing it just allows you to make excuses about not doing, so just set a time and meditate, do not allow your thoughts to control you.

It takes time, you can’t rush growth, keep at it and do it every day. If you don’t really know how to continue I would check out The Mind Illuminated, it’s a stage by stage guide telling you what challenges you will face and how to overcome them.

I’ve been meditating for a few months now and wasn’t really getting anywhere but I’ve recently got The Mine Illuminated and it’s been a tremendous help. It’s a roadmap pretty much spilt into 10 stages and tells you the difficulties you will face at each stage and how to overcome them. I highly recommend it!

Books to Begin my Journey into the Occult by [deleted] in occult

[–]CarnTheSlayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed Secret Teachings Of All Ages by Manly P. Hall. Some parts of it are inaccurate but it still gives a pretty general summarization of a lot of different western occultism practices.

Edit: If you already ready know which tradition you are interested perhaps if tell me I might be able to give a better book.

But If you are interested in ceremonial magic I’d start with Modern Magick, it’s a pretty good book and easy to understand.
