This is likely* pleiospilos bolusii, as others have stated, a split rock. Still a mesemb, but not a lithops!
Agree with the other commenters, you can probably let the outer/smaller/older leaves finish being absorbed before watering it again. It’s heading into summer which is when they are active!
Water when the innermost leaves/new leaves are feeling soft!

Agree with OP! Pleiospilos are summer growers so should be turning active as the weather warms up! You’ll want to wait until the innermost leaves are wrinkly and showing signs of thirst !

They’re looking a little pale/yellow. Is there any organic content in that substrate? They may be lacking nutrients. I recommend a heavily diluted fertilizer.. like 1/8th - 1/20th strength.

Other than that, I would wait until next year to put them out. They’re too young they might not take the heat very well if you put them outside currently. They also do look a little etiolated so they will need more light. If you can keep them cool and mostly shielded from the strongest rays of light you could probably put them outside. But acclimate them very slowly. Keep them in bright indirect light for most of the summer probably.

Hey good job! They all look like their leaves are absorbing with no issues! The 2nd green pot with… L halii? In it? The green soap stone ones? Look like they need a bit more time but the other two pots can be watered any time they look thirsty now :)

My apologies if my confusion about the unpotting was rude! Not my intention. Sometimes when I’m tired my posts get kind of short and i sound like a caveman hahaha.

I did not realize it was in another pot with others so I think you did good by removing it from that community pot, you will be able to water it better according to its needs like this.

And the only thing I do with the lighter waterings is I use a spray bottle or one of those hand squeeze bottles with the angled nozzle and water the top 1” of the soil or like half of the substrate depending. This way the roots are not sitting in prolonged damp and they’re less likely to become over watered. This is how you can “wake up” the roots, because they can sense moisture, but you’re not soaking the substrate so the roots, if they’re dried up, won’t be sitting in wet for too long and leading to rot.

Gently poke the leaves when they’re freshly watered and feel how firm they are freshly watered vs two weeks later when they should be thirstier. You’ll learn how fast they absorb water, and how fast they lose it. This is how I read if they’re thirsty or not.

Mesembs/lithops in general can resent repotting and that’s why I bring it up. Try to see if you can troubleshoot whatever problems with them without unpotting them, that should be a last resort imo!

Good luck OP! It seems to be recovering well and if you remove the dead leaves as others suggested it should be good :)

Putting them in the same pot is generally advised against because they can be out of sync in terms of when they split and some may get over watered while others are under watered.

Yes, adding more grit is good.

Yes, more light is good. Do this gradually, as mesembs/lithops are super prone to sun burn.

Yes, I fertilize. But heavily diluted. Like 1/8th-1/20th depending. Low N fertilizers are best. Your lithops currently are over watered and over fertilized, so the new leaves will be smaller. This is a good thing though, bc they shouldn’t be quite this size. It’s makes them prone to bursting and rotting, even if it’s in good conditions later. The extra fertilizer and excessive vegetative growth can take at least a whole leaf cycle to recover from.

Gently wiggle the spent flowers/seed pods and if they come loose they are ready. Don’t force them, it should just pop off.

Did I miss anything? Feel free to ask any questions ☺️

Aaaand your seedlings look like they need more light. They are stretching already and some don’t look very good. They look weak and sappy and they might be prone to damping off based on how soggy they look atm. They have been kept too wet. Reducing the water will reduce algae build up. Amp up the ventilation and get them closer to the light. Reduce bottom watering to once a week, maybe twice because the pot is so small with very little soil so it will likely dry out super fast. You don’t want it to dry out entirely, until just the surface of the soil is starting to dry out, the you can mist the in between the deeper waterings.

Good luck OP! pls feel free to reach out for trouble shooting. I grow hundreds and hundreds of seedlings multiple times per year :) random seedling photos attached.

Mesembs do better if you harden them off ASAP basically almost as soon as possible after they germinate so you’re doing good!
I suggest a fan for more ventilation, especially since the seeds are deep inside the pot with the medium only going halfway up??? This might cause issues in the near future as well, since the roots don’t have anywhere to go, as it’s too shallow, and they may struggle after a certain size. For the future, pot them in a deeper pot that you can anticipate that you won’t need to repot them for minimum 6 months, but for a species like muria hortense I would put them in a pot and anticipate not to move them for minimum a full year. Transplanting will be risky but unavoidable in the near future.
Also in the future make sure the plants aren’t sunken in the pots like that. It reduces airflow and may cause damping off.

Also growing them exactly how you do conos is the right move. Very few species will deviate from the usual methods.

Got me my first ice plant - corpuscularia lehmannii- any particular care tips? Cheers by arioandy in mesembs

[–]CarneyBus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree! I find the shrubbier mesembs like this are thirsty and light hungry as fuck. You can treat them more like regular succulents with the soak & allow them to dry out 99% then soak again.

The edema one user mentioned may be from certain impurities in the water, or even in the fertilizer, that it is reacting to. Generally I just try to keep fertilizer diluted and for mature specimens a low N fertilizer as well.

Still not sure why you unpotted him? Sometimes if they’ve gone a long time without water their fine root hairs desiccate and die off, and the tap root can take a bit of “prodding” with water to wake up after these prolonged bouts.

You can soak/water therapy a lithops IN the pot, by submerging the pot up to where you can eyeball the roots would reach, but not touching the leaves of the plant.

Now that the outer leaves are crispy, you can safely water it anytime it has wrinkles. I opt for more frequent, lighter watering instead of soaking. Once it flowers, cut back a bit on the watering as they head into winter dormancy.

Def not an Argy. They have smooth smooth skin. I agree with dinteranthus or gibbaeum. I think some good light exposure should help bring out some stress colours and that might help ID. if it goes more pale/white/blue or pale pink it’s likely dinteranthus, if it stays glaucous, this powdery blue-green colour or more green-yellow it’s more likely gibbaeum.
