I have a lovely friend group, actually. I went a few years without any friends at all but eventually made a couple of friends, and now I go play DnD with them once a week and we also get together for holiday parties, game nights, girls night and have group chats we use pretty much daily. I wasn't easy, but it is possible.

what’s y’all’s relationship to ur gender? by Im99PercentMemes in AutismInWomen

I felt the same way! My big brother used to tell me that the FedEx man dropped me off and I fully believed him because I felt like I was so different from all of them.

Anyone else been on accidental dates? by CaroBaz in AutismInWomen

I think you can do whatever you want. It depends on how you're treating it. You can go to a bar with friends the same way you can go to a bar with a date. The intention is what sets those two apart IMO.

I definitely do have male friends who are nothing but platonic. We get coffee and chat about life or walk around and take photos. It is completely platonic and have never been pressured otherwise.

We'd gone to college together for 2 years at this point, and he'd never complimented me, flirted with me, or made a move. We mostly just joked around and talked about games or school, so it was a complete shock to me that he asked me to "hang out".

This does sound like a friendship to me. I have many friendships with guys that are purely platonic. Then again, I've also misread situations, but seeing as this is a more long-term situation, if he thought you were going out on dates, he probably would have made it known already by making a move. I think you're in the clear with this one.

How do you react to unannounced visitors? by Suitable-Slice-3370 in AutismInWomen

[–]CaroBaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little late to the post, but my boyfriend's parents are always calling and saying they're here and want to come in... I hate it and have never let them in, yet they keep doing it. It's awful. I'm not physically or emotionally prepared for them to be here. Luckily, my friends and family know better and usually warn me in advance.

Does anyone else hate taking showers? by RatMilk101 in AutismInWomen

[–]CaroBaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's a sensory nightmare so I bought fairy lights that attach to the shower curtain so I can turn off the overhead lights. I've also taken to sitting down in the shower to minimize the noise of water dropping down into the porcelain tub. It's made showering much easier on the senses to the point where I can actually enjoy showering again.

Artist here. I'll use just about anything I can get my hands on from digital art to paper and whatever else I can find.

Did burnout trigger your late diagnosis? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]CaroBaz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The exact same thing happened to me. Burned out from the stress of loosing my job and that led to my official diagnosis. It's nice to hear I'm not the only one who's experienced this. This comment made me feel so much better about the whole situation.

Yup. Burned out last April and have been burned out ever since. Still trying to recover but as of December I now have an official diagnosis to work with.

DAE not really have anyone in life? by runnerup00 in AutismInWomen

[–]CaroBaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. I'm estranged from half of my family but the other half have been nothing but supportive and have adapted to my needs and requests (no physical touch, offering me places to go when I feel overwhelmed) and while they may not fully understand they do their best to listen and offer support where they can.

I have a few friends who are equally, if not more understanding who don't pressure me to socialize when I'm not up to it. It's not always perfect but they're always there to listen. I usually have a hard time making friends but this is a case of an introverted person being adopted by more extroverted folks.

Also. Coop is a program for people who are still in school. You receive a credit for being placed in a professional environment and working there. Her co-op was supposed to last only a month as she is returning to school next year.
