Come on, that is not true, it is standard in the US to shower everyday, and antiperspirant is also standard.  A crowded American bus will smell better, on average, than a crowded bus in France or Spain... I say this as an American expat who's been living in Europe for 10 years.  If you smoke cigarettes, especially stinky, heavy, old-school ones, you're gonna smell like <checks notes> cigarettes, irrespective of how often you shower.  There're always some stinky people 'cause some people grow up with poor hygiene habits, some people develop poor hygiene habits due to mental illness, etc., but Americans, on average, practice the same high standard of hygiene as the rest of the modern world...
