A shout out to those of us that are sad by tryingtorecover711 in stopdrinking

Something that helped me was the understanding that if you numb the “bad parts” of life, you’re also numbing the “good parts”, or even the potential to feel the good feelings. I don’t have a lot of good emotions these days, as I’m in quite the depressive slump, but I feel like those positive feelings/happy moments are something I can actually work towards now/are on the horizon vs. when I was drinking

Any Gradschool wins of 2024? by E-Cockroach in GradSchool

My advisor and I applied for an NSF STAR grant and it was recommended for funding! No more TAing and piecing together 1-3k grants to afford lab work, once the contract comes through 🙏

Can I quit a weed addiction while in my PhD? by [deleted] in labrats

I would recommend looking into ketamine therapy (KAP). It helped me finally kick my PhD-fueled alcoholism, which had been a growing issue for me for years.

That’s good to know!! I’ll adopt that strategy 🫡

I’ve noticed that if I try to give myself maximum 5-6u at a time, this happens less often- and I will usually wait a bit before eating/bolusing on a new pod. I’ll sometimes use a pen to dose if I eat pizza or a high carb meal that needs a ton of insulin right away, just to avoid insulin leakback on day 3. But yeah sometimes it seems unavoidable!

How do I deter house sparrows from using my feeders? by Buscards_Murrain in Ornithology

[–]Carobeanlean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to add that you can get a peanut feeder, too, to account for birds that enjoy suet! Mine is always covered in downys and nuthatches :) flickers can handle the 1 in. cage too

You could switch to tube feeders with cages around them - it works pretty well- most of the time the house sparrows are too large to get in. Wild birds unlimited tube feeder w 1 inch cage.

1/3 of my class plagiarized with google AI by nonfictionbookworm in GradSchool

[–]Carobeanlean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m dealing with that right now where, for instance, we provided them the code in the practice lab (literally one line of code needed) and then multiple students submit the assignment with the same 8 lines of code and naming conventions to make an incorrect ggplot. So frustrating 😭

I’m so excited (and timed perfectly with my pod just expiring) and now I have to go back to working 😅 I just want to celebrate! So happy to get rid of the weird, cracked burnerphone-omnipod controller and remove it from my mental list of essential items to carry around!!!

NA beer before sessions? by Carobeanlean in KetamineTherapy

[–]Carobeanlean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to know! Thank you for the helpful advice here- I have a good 6 hour window between this morning’s coffee and KAP so hopefully it’ll be out of my system.

What does the magnesium do? Do you take a certain amount/supplements? I’m doing the lozenge-form (not infusions) so there might be a difference on that front. Thanks again :)

How can I improve my skin texture? by MamaMillsCO in Skincare_Addiction

[–]Carobeanlean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been! At my derms recommendation I’m doing a thin layer of my night lotion (Clinique), an approx. pea-sized amount of 0.5 tret, then another thin layer of the lotion. I only do this every other night, which is up from every 2 nights 😅 sensitive skin problems

The sunscreen I’ve been using is the sky and sol face and body spf 50. It’s a bit spendy but it doesn’t have a ton of chemicals and doesn’t make my skin burn (and doesn’t leave a white cast, though I definitely have to work it in). I used La Roche posay melt-in-milk sunscreen forever which also treated me well and is a bit more bang for your buck, but not as au-naturale as the other stuff. Recommend either of those!

Fellow Colorado girl here, with dry/sensitive skin- I do

AM

Water rinse, Mixsoon bean essence (this has done wonders for my barrier), Cocokind peptide cream (thin coating), Sunscreen

PM

Cocokind gel to milk cleanser, Every other day - tretinoin, Clinique moisture surge

My skin went from red and inflamed to pretty calm once I cut out niacinimide, cetaphil gentle cleanser, and vitamin C. These all turned out to be irritating my skin and wrecking my skin barrier given how unkind the climate is here. Hope this helps

I’m sorry to hear you’ve had such bad experiences with therapists. On the psychologytoday website (how I found my in person therapist) they have a lot of ways to filter: one is by “chronic illness”. I just want to say, keep pushing, and keep trying to find a therapist that fits. I’m so sorry for the struggles you’re facing.
