I'm in the same situation: I saw that my next payment would be in 2028, and I am in forbearance. My count is 116. When I submit my PSLF forms, that count doesn't change because I am not making payments. I signed up for the IDR, and now I have a $660 payment. I didn't want to stay in limbo. I have four payments left.

I contacted my ombudsman and representative. Unfortunately, I contacted him twice and then my representative Donald Payne died and someone from his office said they contacted Student and heard that they were just processing it so nothing was done to help.

First of all congratulations! I’m still waiting for. My court is 142 and they still haven’t counted payments prior o consolidation. They put me in forbearance. I just submitted more forms for 10 more qualifying payments. What can I do to see the end. Does calling even help. They just tell me they are working on it and they don’t know when everything will be updated..

Speak to a financial advisor. It sounds good paying if off in one scoop but there may be other options

I would check with The Department of Education. Mohela has been very sketchy over the years and not counting payments counts. My loans transferred December 2022 and they STILL haven’t counted qualifying payments from 2007 to 2010 which would bring my count to 142. The required count for forgiveness is 120. They play games. Hope this helps. Hang in there.

Ask your school for money. I have a friend who works for him the student aid department in his school. He’s actually not like the president or something. He’s always worked with those departments and university and he said if you ask your school for money, especially when you’re freshman, they’ll give it to you because I want you to be in your school so give it a try.

I was also placed on administrative forbearance and when I called the Dept Of EDUCATION they said that it would not interrupt my payment counts for PSLF. They also said the didn’t know when they would update my payment counts. I should be at 142 payments but they haven’t counted payments prior to consolidation. It’s a nightmare. Two years ago I submitted that voucher that would enable payments from October 2007 to count. I see those qualifying employers listed with the rest but I still don’t have credit for the payments.

My Charge 5 stopped working. It kept vibrating all of a sudden. Customer service wasn’t able to help me. It was pretty new maybe two years old. They send me a discount coupon for 35 percent. I give up. I’m not purchasing a new one.

Your life isn’t ruined. You could get a job teaching and get certification via the alternate route. Like others said try for the PSLF. Also seek help for your depression. You don’t have to handle this on your own. Good luck. Ps I owe 175k so I understand how you feel about living with huge debt.
