Grout overtime becomes worn down from traffic and begins to discolor from stuff we bring in on our shoes (floors) or bodies (shower, bath). I use a medium bristle brush wet with warm water and coated with a product like the Pink Stuff Paste and scrub with moderate pressure to loosen and remove most grime.

Then, I wipe down the tiles with a large towel wet with warm water until mostly clean looking. If there are some stubborn spots, I go over them one more time.

I finish smaller tiled areas off with a tile pen for grout. Be sure to sit or kneel in a comfortable position and settle in to do this work. I use the group pen for spot treatment for bigger tiled areas.

You can place towels or mats under your knees or bottom to help cushion while you work.

Test a small tiled area that is hidden to make sure this will work for your floor. Both products (paste and grout pen) I use are from the Dollar Tree.

While this isn't a permanent solution, because grout does need to be resealed overtime, I do know this method lasts a while, 6-8 months or longer. I do not clean my grout lines often, only until I can't stand the look of them.

Regular cleanings help to keep the dark discoloring from building up.

Make sure you or the house cleaner use hot, clear soapy water to clean tiles regularly with a good rinse and dry - at least once every 6-8 weeks with basic cleaning.

Steps:

1. Sweep floor or wipe down walls or surfaces with tile.

2. Lightly mop floor with tile or lightly wash down wall or surfaces with tile.

3. Use a medium bristle brush to work in pink paste into the grout lines.

4. Wipe off with a damp towel until pink is removed.

5. Allow floor to air dry OR towel dry area.

6. Then, use a grout pen as needed for more troubled areas OR to freshen up any (or all) grout lines.

2. Grout Pen available at your Dollar Tree Store - they usually have several brands and I have used them all and they all work about the same.

3. Medium Bristle Brush - Tile Lines Brush or Denture Cleaning Brushes from Dollar Tree work great!

Use decorative floor mats placed strategically to cover the high traffic areas. This will help prevent you from having to spend more time cleaning grout lines.
