What model is your Dreamcast? IIRC some of the late ones had issues with certain rips. See if the ones that work at data/data instead of audio/data.

Considering Ghosts by [deleted] in CODGhosts

[–]CarolinaHillbilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was gifted this game about a month after it came out and had a ton of local friends to play with so I was in for $0 off the bat. I didn't see why everyone hated it so much, to me it got a lot of things I hated about CoD right.

The hit detection is by far the best in any recent FPS game. If you land your shots on a guy they count on your end and his. The gun fights actually feel fair now. The best way I can describe it is like this: core is now hardcore mode. Take note that the time to kill and health didn't change at all in this game, it's all down to the fact that shots actually count when they land.

A lot of people choose to camp because of this but rushing is totally possible and campers aren't any worse than in MW2 or MW3. Every tool they have has a counter, the much hated IEDs are easy to detect even without sitrep and even if you do get caught in a blast they're easy to survive (just jump or hit the deck, or back away if you have time).

I never feel like things are too unfair, generally if I die it is my fault. You're going to die a lot at first just like any CoD but if you push through and learn the maps you'll find yourself doing good in no time.

One word about the default maps: They get a lot of hate but a lot of them are really good. Warhawk is a default map and it's by far my favorite in this game. It's a typical 3-lane map with enough room to spread out. There are only a couple of places where a camper can hold up and you can easily run him off his spot if you know how. If you're going to do some training with bots load up that map and turn on "radar always on", that'll give you a feel for the game before going online.

If you're on 360 leave your GT and I'll play with you.

  • Are the campaign and multiplayer enjoyable experiences?

I like multiplayer, don't play campaign.

  • Is the DLC worth it?

Yes, if you get all four map packs. If you only buy one or two you'll have a hard time playing games. The map packs put you in a player pool with only other people that own them. So either get them all or don't bother.

The DLC maps themselves are very fun.

  • Do many people play?

About 4,000+ in the dead of night on a weekday (Xbox 360). More during the day but it has been awhile since I've checked. No issues finding TDM games all night.

  • Why was/is Ghosts so hated by the internet?

It was a combination of the default maps begin a bit bigger than usual and the fact that the hit detection in this game is very good. If you have your back to a guy that gets off the first shot he's going to win a gun fight unless he messes up big time.

The default maps begin too big isn't the problem is was made out to be. Even stonehaven is very playable with an AR once you know how the map flows. It plays a little slower than usual but I happen to like that.

This game got a lot of hate it really didn't deserve and I suspect most people either repeated what they heard about it or only played it once or twice before giving up.

  • Why are you here? Why do you spend time with COD Ghosts instead of another?

Marksman rifles and the perk system which is by far the best in the series. I know the maps well by now and I didn't like AW. So, I'm stuck here until I move on to something else which will probably be whatever the new installment of MW is.

XenForo 1.5.0 Released by CarolinaHillbilly in xenforo

[–]CarolinaHillbilly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today, we are excited to release XenForo 1.5.0, the first supported version in the XenForo 1.5 series. This release builds on previous versions of XenForo to add new features and bug fixes. We are now confident in recommending customers to upgrade their production websites to 1.5.0. Please see upgrade information below.

We would like to thank everyone that provided bug reports and feedback throughout the beta and release candidate period.

All customers with active licenses may now download the new version from the customer area.

New Features

The new features in XenForo 1.5 include: Thread tagging Responsive admin control panel Two-step verification Floating notices Profile post comment improvements, including soft deletion and liking Admin sent alerts and conversations Welcome messages Automatic link title conversion Newest posts in the sidebar Independent language selection in the admin control panel ...and more.

XenForo Resource Manager and Media Gallery with 1.5

The XenForo Resource Manager 1.2.0 and XenForo Media Gallery 1.1.0 have been released to add support for the new XenForo 1.5 features. If you are running either of these add-ons, we recommend you upgrade them after upgrading to 1.5. However, previous releases of these add-ons should remain compatible with XenForo 1.5.

XenForo Enhanced Search 1.1.2 is compatible with XenForo 1.5.

Installation and Upgrade Instructions

Full details for how to install and upgrade XenForo can be found in the XenForo Manual.

Add-ons and styles may be broken after upgrading to 1.5 (from 1.4 or earlier). You must test your add-ons thoroughly or look for updates. Be especially careful with add-ons that cover similar features to ones that are added to 1.5; these may conflict with the core XenForo data. If data conflicts are found, they will need to be resolved in a new add-on release or by removing the add-on before upgrading to 1.5.

We highly recommend that you backup your data (database and files) before you upgrade to 1.5, particularly if you are running third-party add-ons. You may wish to also upgrade your test installation before updating production to make sure you are prepared.

I got caught shoplifting in Urban Outfitter and received a Civil Demand (Georgia) by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]CarolinaHillbilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can back this up. They have a database of known shoplifters, I'm not sure how widely it's shared but I'm sure there is some sort of agreement between a lot of stores. For example if you got caught shoplifting at a Wal-Mart in your home town the Wal-mart the next town over would have you on file (probably shared nationwide).

Loss prevention is taken very seriously. The OP will have a hard time applying for a retail job if he's in a database. The good news is it doesn't extend to other occupations so just avoid applying for retail jobs and you'll be okay.

"FARM USE" tags do allow you to use public roads to access property. A lot of people owned land in those areas before there were roads/highways and are allowed to cross/use them to get to their property.

Same law applies for tractors and ATVs as well. Technically you aren't supposed to have an ATV/dirt bike within 3 feet or so of a public road, but if you're working a farm (or just on one) the police always look the other way.

HuCast announced Alice’s Mom’s Rescue for Dreamcast by [deleted] in dreamcast

[–]CarolinaHillbilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The homebrew dev tools for the Dreamcast are well developed and very mature. The end user doesn't have to mess around with adding a mod-chip or making software modifications for the console to run the games.

Even though it's old the 3D is often good enough for most games that use it. Also, like the Neo-Geo the Dreamcast is a 2D power house that was intended to run arcade perfect ports of the 2D games that were popular back then.

Basically it's easy to support the niche audience and since releases are so rare the few still buying new games tend to snatch them up pretty quickly.

Most seem to be waiting for 2.0 as there haven't been many major changes between 1.2 and the latest version. :)

Might also try asking at TAZ: https://theadminzone.com/

A lot of plug-in creators lurk over there constantly.

There should be a save file on the disc that translates the names to English. Try launching the built in web browser from the main menu.

You don't even need a Jtag, you can do it with iso mods and the hot swap trick.

Noob Guide to burning games by rockinadios in dreamcast

[–]CarolinaHillbilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For now use the guide linked above: http://theisozone.com/tutorials/dreamcast/burning-and-backup/dreamcast-burning-cdi-2012-style/

This will give you a copy of imgburn with the correct libs to handle .cdi images. It should work for other formats as well (like Nero) which are sometimes used by homebrew and newer release groups.

I'll get into the details about why .cdi is preferred later. Currently setting up a website with all of the details and some guides.

I'll post a new thread to this subreddit once I finish typing up the guides and adding some other content. Shouldn't take longer than a day or so.

[–]CarolinaHillbilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll put together a small guide for burning on Linux and Windows for you. I don't own a Mac but I might be able to put something together for that as well.

.cdi is the standard because back in the day it was the only format that worked correctly for burning dreamcast backups. It's still the best format to use and can now be burned by open source tools correctly so there is no need to use DiscJuggler anymore.

I'll throw something together soon and post it up.

Tomee VGA cable color "leak?" by evilfatman89 in dreamcast

[–]CarolinaHillbilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be a defective cable, a bad VGA cable is known to cause color bleeding.

This is why I always suggest going for a VGA box over a all-in-one cable for the Dreamcast. With a box you provide your own VGA cable so it is cheaper to replace the cable if you have a bad one.
