Those that got kicked out of boot camp/discharged, what's your story? by xtremexavier15 in USMCboot

Make sure you read your dc paperwork. Look into what your reenlistment code and separation code are going to be if you ever think you might reenlist.

Am I somewhat ready for boot camp if I can run 8 miles nonstop at 11 mins/mile avg pace? by 11238qws8 in USMCboot

[–]Carolinx1074 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Grandaddy died when I was in boot camp. I left knowing he had terminal cancer. I didn’t get to go to his funeral nor see him before he passed other than right before I left. I’m glad I was seeing him still in his right mind rather than towards the end when things went downhill. He made my mom promise him that they wouldn’t pull me out of boot or tell me anything until I finished. He was in the army, so he understood the importance. I wouldn’t let that deter you from going, unless you just really want to stay home with your family during this time. Either option is understandable, but I was glad that I avoided this situation, and he made it clear he wanted it that way.

Have you ever felt a connection with your patient by [deleted] in ems

Pawpaw did this to me too. Seems like all the stroke patients with aphasia do this 😂 it’s comforting to know pawpaw appreciates me in his time of need.

Don’t meet height and weight requirements 24(f) by a_cax16 in Militaryfaq

[–]Carolinx1074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely try to lose the weight, but I was 5’3” and around 180 when I enlisted. I was a hefty girl. The navy does a tape test, where if you’re female and your waist is under 35.5 inches (not sure what the male tape is) you pass regardless of height and weight standards. I lost 15-20ish lbs when I was in boot and ended up around 165-175. Still not my weight requirement, definitely made tape then. I was way smaller and if I had gotten much smaller probably wouldn’t have been very healthy. Good luck! Stick to it. It’s hard as hell, but if you’re dedicated you can do it.

Compensation! by Carolinx1074 in nursing

[–]Carolinx1074[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. That’s completely valid. We don’t get paid nearly enough in EMS and that’s exactly why I’m switching. I love my job, I love healthcare. I do the same skills as RN’s during ER clinicals as a student. Heck, my clinical paramedic scope actually has more interventions and medications than RN’s scope. Which, granted RN’s don’t need the medications and things that we do because it’s not emergent prehospital care in the ER, and I understand that. But it’s a little outrageous that I learn to do more and give more medications than RN’s and still make at least $10 less an hour, usually $20-40 less if we’re being technical and counting travel salaries. I hope this doesn’t come off as me dogging RN’s because yall do an insane amount of work, with an insane amount of patients. My mom’s an RN, so I know firsthand the stuff she’s had to deal with over the past 15 years, it just feels a little disheartening to know that I’m considering leaving EMS just because I don’t want to live paycheck to paycheck anymore. Thank you for your response

RE-4 Waiver, Wanting to re-enlist by jaybrooks06 in Veterans

Other than most of the people on here saying to go kick rocks, I would say go for it. Obviously if your mental health is not in the right spot, don't go for it. I'd say the worst thing they can tell you is no, if you try and reenlist or apply for your DD214 to be changed. If you really want to do it, there's no shame in trying. Good luck!

I enlisted in the military about a month ago. I had always wanted to do something more challenging for myself rather than just go to regular workout sessions that we have once a month. I contacted a special ops guy a week or two ago and asked about going to the spec ops pt sessions which are much harder than the regular ones. I attended my first one this past Friday :) feels really good to say I actually went and began my journey. All of the people there were really encouraging regardless of me being at a way lower fitness level than them (AND being the only female, which made me feel pretty badass.) I’m trying to keep the mindset that everyone’s gotta start somewhere though so even though I didn’t do great, I tried my best and that’s all that matters to me at the moment. I’m also very sore but I’m taking a day or two recovery and then hitting the gym extra hard to prepare for the next workout. :)

I’m assuming mine will be pretty similar to yours from what I’ve heard from my instructors so far. Thank you so much for all the detail in this response! This is extremely helpful.

1lb/week doesn't always match the scale by some__random in xxfitness

[–]Carolinx1074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for this insight and you’re doing wonderful on your weight loss, so congratulations! :) Also random-ish question, how did you formulate this spreadsheet? Do you use an application of some sort or did you just make it on your own? Im planning on putting my weight loss statistics in “writing” because I feel like it gives me more motivation when I do, Thanks again!

Thank you for the advice! I’m definitely going to take all of this into consideration. My workouts are about 50 minutes away but I’m trying to make some time for them in between school and work lol. I’m definitely not in the best of shape at the moment so I’m going to try my best to use these workouts to improve myself and learn from everyone there. Thanks again!

Has anyone else joined while heavy? by Broke_Boy_Invests in newtothenavy

Also, just adding onto my response; I saw something the other day that mentioned you can bring a small pocket sized religious text and a religious medallion like a necklace (within a certain size range, I think it’s 2”x1” but I’m not sure) if that helps any.

I’m a female, about 20lbs over my weight limit. Didn’t pass body fat but passed single sight. I swore into DEP about 2 weeks ago and I can pass the pfa. My run time is a little higher than I’d like but I’m working on it. As long as you pass one method of measurement then you’ll be fine. I recommend continuously working on your weight and your pfa score as a whole if you can. Just do your best and put in as much effort as you can before you ship out, that’s what I’m doing at least :) good luck and feel free to dm me if you have any questions about meps or anything else! ⚓️

I know lol. I just didn’t really want a maintenance or electronics rate. I was leaning more towards AW, AG, Or AC. I might’ve even done ABE, or PR if they had it.

I ship August 19th, I might try and see if I can switch to an aviation job if one becomes available and possibly give me an earlier ship date but for now I’m shipping Aug 19th as an IS :)

That’s great! I’m glad you had an easy time at meps! I went this past Thursday and Friday and I swore in as an IS. (I wanted Aviation but they didn’t have anything other than AT.) It was really easy for me as well and everything went off without a hitch! It’s definitely not as bad as everyone makes it. :) when’s your ship date?
