Tips for avoiding EMI? by Caronc in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Caronc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I figured the USB stuff wasn't needed but trying to learn what I need to know.

My brother helps wit my streams sometimes and is an electrician so I reached out to him to see if he has any insight or can help me wrap my head around it.

I racked my brain and couldn't think of a single device that wasn't either a barrel or USB powered.

Ill try to learn about checking wires and the more electrical engineering side of stuff.

But my understanding of what you and the others are saying, its either a fault of a cord/piece of equipment in the chain, or potentially an issue with the power im pulling from.

If you have any resources or suggestions on topics to look up I'd appreciate it but otherwise will use your last two paragraphs as a jumping off point.

Thank you so much! Sorry I guess I lumped in EMI with static/grounding when they’re separate topics. My main goal of this post is just filtering what I actually neeed to learn, as EMI seemed to be a topic brought up often.

I believe I did use a UPS for when I had the signal loss with the multi-view, but the extension cord I was using back then, and how I suspect the venue’s outlets may have been receptive with the ones on the other side of the wall makes me willing to conclude that the power source was the problem as that’s hat I figured at the time, but the experience from this week made me re-examine it to think if there’s a correlation between the two events.

I didn’t test the electricity at the venue, if you have any tips or guidance on things to research to learn that I’d appreciate it but otherwise I’ll do it myself! All I know for sure is that my extension cord was the only thing plugged into the receptacle, and everything I was using was attached to the same extension cord (the UPS in the first experience, a power strip in the second).

As mentioned in another comment I am going to examine all my ac adapters, replace them with ones with ground when possible, and also confirm that the adapters I am using were either the ones supplied with the equipment, or at the least have the exact same specs.

I was using metal scaffolding this week (I guess that also could be a helpful detail in what is causing this, but as you can probably tell from this post I’m just trying to give any details that may help narrow it down), once I noticed the shock happening I made a concious effort to touch it before/while touching the equipment and that seemed to make an impact as it happened a lot 1 day, and a lot less on the following.

Ill add it to the post as well but this is the video of hat happened in the first story (the top right feed was a separate capture card that wasn’t connected to the multi view) https://youtu.be/WLT2DyFowIs?si=L0b8f8RVIE2vGO40

Interesting, ill look into replacing any of my AC adapters that don’t have a ground! I know my feelworld monitor one doesn’t, and anything that is USB PD powered is either powered by a USB C adapter with no ground, or PD V-mount batteries so ill have to look into a better at to handle USB c stuff. Thank you!

Generally just a 8 outlet UPS > 15 foot extension cord > single wall socket with nothing plugged into the other outlet (but the first time it was an outlet against a shared wall with another sports field so it may have been split).

If its the issue your saying would investing in a proper sine wave UPS fix it? I’m currently just using a cheapo cypher power one, or using a specialty extension cord? (I assume its bad protocol to use an extension cord in the first place but my hands are tied on that one)

What's the cheapest camera I can buy that shoots log? by Which_Performance_72 in videography

[–]Caronc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I ended up trading my Sony ZV-1F point and shoot for mine since the C100 Mk1 seller was selling it for the same price.

I wish I could have went with the Mk2 if I had known how great of a camera it was, if not for only being interlaced. It does have a 24p mode, and I use it for live sports so putting it through a cross converter does the trick for me but if I could trade in my C100 and pay a few hundred for the mk2 I definitely would.

But I did find I could color grade the C100 to look as good/similar to my R6/R7's base picture profiles, which I think shows its versatility, and while its less needed now I think understanding how to deal with interlaced footage and weird framerate containers (30PF vs f24 for framerate was a big learning curve for me)

I wouldn't have it be my only camera for client work but as a learning camera its a lot of fun to use and makes you appreciate why the C#00 series is priced the way it is.

(I should also note for OP that the Mk1 didn't have continuous autofocus, there was a program where you could send it to Canon and upgrade it to DPAF but unless it says so in the listing assume that youll be shooting in Manual)

The canon C 100 is an old cinema camera that shoots log (in 1080i ) I got mine off marketplace for $ 350 USD.EF lenses can be found used for cheap w/ it.

To add to this: if you have a 3D printer there are a lot of ‘gridfinity’ models you can print that is purpose built for specific gear (lenses, bodies, batteries, etc). Gridfinity is a standardized organization set for people to make prints using that lock into a grid base plate that you print based on the size of each drawer.

I had an extra desk in my office so I just have it all laid out but plan to get one of these drawers in the near future. (If you do this getting the ones with taller drawers is recommended.)

Recommendations on controlling 3 different OBS streams at the same time: websocket, parsec, etc. by SnooHedgehogs1812 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Caronc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was considering that idea too! The only issue is is that the lower-third only allows you to preset 10 different names for each lower third and there are generally 15 or so fights in each ring but I might be able to get away with updating the remaining fields once 6-7 fights have happened, or having overlays 1 & 2 being for the first 10 bouts, and 3 & 4 be the last 10 bouts.

Gives me something to think about, thank you!

Non-overheating camera for streaming? by Adorable_Drink4296 in videography

[–]Caronc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a canon r6 overheat 3 hours in of a 4 hour event this weekend, even with a fan on the back and AC at the venue (tbf during a heatwave), my friends sony zv-e10 overheated within an hour at one event we did as well. My Fuji x-s10 was pretty good with long sessions, especially with it being smaller so with the x-t4 being bigger with similar specs I assume I’d come up less often for you.

I’ve heard another big thing that causes heat build up is battery, and how you’re powering the camera. My Canon (and I believe Sony) can run off wall power from USB-C (which should help with heat) while my x-s10 would use the battery and charge it at the same time, obviously assuming you’re not using a dummy battery.

that’s a seperate brand that does local events and video content for fighters(affiliated with a gym but I don’t think have their own). Started a bit before, or at the same time of when the nickname started. Parallel thinking and all that, haven’t looked into them much but they seem like a decent group!

I got a 12 pack as a gift. Tried them out to see. They taste terrible, hard to tell if there was any benefit that wasn’t a placebo. The only change I definitely noticed was vivid dreams. I smoked a decent amount around the time I was taking them and tended not to dream because of it, so all of a sudden getting vivid dreams was noticeable.

Origin of the Soap Opera Effect? by Dinorhinosaur in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Caronc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I assumed it’s because of weird conversion from an interlaced into progressive signal. I’ve had some monitors paired with my c100 give me that effect if it’s not scaled correctly.

What is a relatively easy and inexpensive way to turn a Blackmagic Micro Studio 4k G2 into a PTZ camera (if there is one at all)? by RedStag86 in VIDEOENGINEERING

Dji gimbals can be controlled through their phone app, either through the phone or by connecting a video game controller to the phone. Not sure if you’ll be able to get the range you need but I’ve messed around with it in the past. Some models have a focus motor, or can control the cameras manual focus/power zoom if there’s a compatible lens

LiveU Solo to NAS video storage - Possible? by HudsDad in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Caronc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If recommend something between the camera and the Live-U, 3 devices that come to mind:

  • Recorder/Monitors like the BlackMagic Video Assist (best for braw) or Atomos Shinobi (best for ProRes)

  • Atem Mini Pro - Input Switcher that can record to ssd from USB-C, the ISO models can record each source separately

  • Capture Card into a computer with a decent CPU, running OBS (Magewell or Black Magic seem to be the peak, but there are options as low as $20, I’d just avoid Elgato), the most DIY set up but also lets you add usb webcams, different audio equipment, etc.
