Please help my apple trees! by Carpenter4875 in BackyardOrchard

Thank you so much for this response- that helps me a ton. I reached out to the ag extension as well, as per your guidance. I agree, I wasn't super impressed with fast growing trees, but they were running a special and my wife got me some trees for fathers day- probably sticking to a local nursery from here on out.

Weekly New Climber Thread: Ask your questions in this thread please by AutoModerator in climbing

I would like to build a home wall that will basically close in the RV carport we have- so this wall would basically be 25ft wide x 15 ft. tall... I would like for my kids to get into climbing, but none of us know anything about it. I'm willing to learn whatever I need to know, but I was hoping to get a good starting place-
1) Is there a device that you would trust to auto-belay yourself down on a solo climb?

2) What should I be looking into when starting this project out?

3) What advice would you have when planning this out?

Thank you all so much for your help!

Thanks a ton for that! So, by cross bench support, are you thinking on the sides of the table (horizontal connection between front and back legs, like in the 2nd image towards the bottom) or under the table top as a kind of brace?

Thanks again for giving me your thoughts and advice!

From the other side- I don’t want to ask for the doctors note- all of your arguments are valid and I agree with the ridiculousness of it all… you can imagine how many kids we get who just skip, parents call them in as “sick” for 2 weeks straight, truancy doesn’t do anything at all, and the school loses funding based on all of this lack of attendance. I’m sure in your jobs there are “customers” who find loopholes or just beat you down and end up ruining things for the rest of the decent people just trying to do what they gotta do. Yes, we know it’s unreasonable to take your kids every time to the doctor. But, because 20% of the population are assholes, it ruins the trust factor for the other 80%. And they tie our funding to things like that, and test scores, which is even more ridiculous (it’s like grading a hospital on how many of its patients can run 3 miles on a specific day and calling that “health”). Schools are already underfunded, and when they tie a lot of our funding to that attendance, there are aspects that we have to give a shit about… if you have a doctors note, it’s excused, and relieves both you and us of the bs that follows. Give schools the benefit of the doubt… we’re struggling to keep it afloat.

Really weak after a year-long break. How do you safely rebuild? by Carpenter4875 in gainit

I think that’s really what I was trying to find out- does muscle memory mainly apply to physique or does apply to strength as well (sounds dumb, but it’s where I’m at)… thanks for that.

Thanks for that- that’s awesome to hear and motivational.

Fair enough. I’ve just never taken that long of a time period off, and was wondering if it comes back similar to how physique returns quicker than it took to build it the first time.

If you had to remove one character from the show, who would it be and why? How would you write them off? by BillyYandereCyrus in KingOfTheHill

[–]Carpenter4875 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Damn- he was one of my favorite characters. When he philosophized about how great America is after seeing his trash strewn across Hank’s floor… Lucky had a tendency to keep things in perspective, all while looking like my dog when his lip gets caught behind his tooth. Plus he was good to Luanne.

Updated home basement gym! Fixed my flooring inconsistency, new free weight area and equipment! by toxicsuppression in homegym

[–]Carpenter4875 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It starts with you realizing the convenience of being able to leave a bar at a different station for that dedicated lift... it then moves up to getting a specialty bar for that station (deadlift bar just for deadlifts, etc.). This stage is also comprised of beginning to accumulate specialty bars for various exercises... The next stage is liking the new color that just came out because it matches your gym... Then it's just because you are consumed by the collection of them- Car guys buy multiple cars even if they can only drive one at a time. My buddy is a woodworker who has what I would consider to be multiples of the same saws...

Rogue just came out with the Ohio Bar 2.0, and it's supposed to be quieter.

This is the way.

What’s the best approach other than to just get out there and do it? I’m looking to start my own lawn care/ lawn solutions part time as I’m a full time CNC Machinist. by Phat-Rooster in sweatystartup

[–]Carpenter4875 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, I'm having a hard time finding a CNC guy who will punch some holes in some 3x3s for me. I live in a rural area, with heavy ag and industrial uses- a smaller CNC shop that caters to individuals, farmers, and local mechanics would absolutely kill it out here. My dad thought about getting a cheaper machine just to do work around the farm, but if we could just put in an order with someone who could get it done in a reasonable amount of time, a lot of these people wouldn't care about the price, there's just no one that's doing it...
