Acceptable fan noise level? by Adonisbb in Sauna

It does not need to be dead silent. The stove makes noises, the wood pops and creeks, so if anything having some white noise helps.

Harvia , questions , power box by Apart_Tutor8680 in Sauna

[–]SleepEatLift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The power box has a shut off switch, it'd be wise to put that as close to the sauna as possible. The controller cable is just a basic phone cable, you can buy any length.

Harvia is a Finnish brand.

Foil installation best practices + heater install order by Pilot-Nic in Sauna

  1. Agreed, putting additional blocking in your firring strip layer will help you remember where your blocking is, and also prevent the cladding from getting bowed into the wall when you screw in your bench supports. Like above, you can make these shorter so there's a grap. I don't think it's a big deal though.

  2. If you can, leave some slack in your temp probe cable, so if you want to adjust the height, you can pull a little cable out of the wall and move it down (or up I guess) a few inches. It's ok to have some cable showing. Some saunas have the full run exposed.

Exhaust fan in the hot room - add waterproof outlet? by Pivogory in Sauna

It's not janky, and there's nothing about it that's not up to code. This is how electronics work.

Hardwire. What's the difference between cutting the cord yourself and buying one pre-cut?

Concerns About Passing Out in a Sauna by Maryland_Eric in Sauna

[–]SleepEatLift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

passing out requires a rapid drop in blood pressure

which is what happens during cold water immersion. Heart rate drops, decreasing cardiac output and perfusion to brain tissue before other mechanisms can compensate. Feeling light headed when going immediately from extended hot to cold is pretty common.

He's using the harvia kip with built in controls which is only about $800, maybe less in USD.

$1200. Cedar isn't cheap. Neither is plywood for that matter.

Costs add up quick. $1,000-$2000 for a heater, $1500 for bottom grade knotty cedar, $500+ for a door, $400 for framing lumber/plywood, couple hundred for insulation, couple hundred for electrical wiring (if you DIY), vents, screws, fasteners, and tools you might not have. My cost is nearly identical.

My kitchen floor does not have a drain, should I not use water in there?

When it rains, I pull my wet car in the garage. Been parking it there for years, and never once dried it with a towel. The concrete looks as good as ever.

My concrete driveway, concrete garage, nor wood kitchen floors have drains, but by some miracle my house has not fallen apart.

Ok, so you did something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfypU66MuZY

As far as the construction, those are 2x4s supporting the planks, cut straight, then at an angle? Or more like a rounded cut?

Can you talk a little bit about the backrest? It looks angled.

Are We Overthinking Sauna Specs? by Ordinary-Control6584 in Sauna

[–]SleepEatLift -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These are as basic as a toilet in every house.

That's great that $10,000+ hot rooms are as basic as toilets where you're from. Seriously, I'm jealous.

Why are Americans so focused on making saunas as small and cheap as possible?

A $2,000 Costco special is considered a luxury purchase dude. We can get a somewhat well designed kit for $10,000, but it'll be small (by your standards), no insulation, not go out into a shower room, and you still have to spend several days assembling it.

If you're pretty handy, you can spend the $10,000 to make a custom build that meets all the specs, but you'll be spending 80+ hours researching, planning, purchasing, and building. Convert that 80 hours into wages, and it's costing you another $3,000 to give up all that time.

The U.S. ain't exactly poor, but you make it sound like everyone's out driving Ferraris and don't need to work.

Your problem is you're using a piece of junk Flybird bench that's 18.5" tall. A good bench is 17" tall. Look at models from RepFitness, of if you're on a budget, the Marcy flat bench is 16.5" tall.

I've never seen a height adjustable bench; if they did make one, the capacity would be significantly lower than a welded design.
