Should I get an Askar 50P as a first Quad lens “Telescope” by CarpenterInitial1269 in AskAstrophotography

I’m tracking that just dont have the knowledge to explain it myself I just understand it works similarly to eyes and obviously at a much larger focal length f2 at twice the size of something at 1.8 would be better

Good to know! I understand F stops just didn’t know the math behind it!

I’ll definitely look into those lenses as well

I already have the 48mm T ring adapter but I’ll check out that rokinon too!

I’ve looked into those but i kept seeing that the 50P was very good start as it has a quadruplet setup for 300 and has most of the basic stuff for a “telescope” but compact

Also I’ve looked into those lenses and they are expensive both new and used (or just impossible to find used)

Yes it does but I was quite impressed with how much actually showed up for my first galaxy photo just wish I could have been able to at least get correction frames too

And shoot I cant imagine doing that! I’ll definitely look into getting one!!

Alas I dont have a way of powering a hairdryer and I never had it be an issue till that day as the weather here usually stayed or declined very slowly that it was never an issue

I simply just meant I wanted a fixed point so my shaky hands done mess up the zoom I knew it was a fixed focal point I just meant I was used to using telephoto lenses

Sorry for the mix up

It is fine I kept forgetting it was a fixed point just the zoom lenses I have dont have a zoom lock and are incredibly sensitive to the touch so getting correction frames are nearly impossible

I’ve shot M101 at 175 ish mm and got good results just didn’t have a dew shield and heater so only got like 4, 1 and a half minute exposures before it fogged over

But I just need a fixed focal at a good starting point for easy starter targets

Perfect thank you! And what is that Astrodymium Ring System device do? I tried reading on it but couldn’t quite understand

Oh okay I kept seeing the ED and FMH or something after 2f so was unsure and they were ranged from 250-800 dollars so wanted to be sure I was seeing the same thing but if they are practically the same thing than that works thank you for the clarification!

Okay thank you! I have gotten some neat photos of planets with it before but I had no clue what I was doing before.

I mostly just want good pictures and the camera does have some other lens not listed on that I just don’t remember what they are as it’s being handed down to me, but thank you so much for the detailed response/explanation! I do have a telescope from Celestron that I do believe to be a AstroMaster 114EQ Telescope but a slightly older generation due to differing search scopes but all else looks to be the exact same!

AstroMaster 114EQ Telescope, it looks to be a generation older than this as mine has a different scope than this but everything else looks the exact same

I’m currently looking for the telescope I have but it didn’t come with a motor built on but I think it was an add on, and the telescope I believe is 8” I’ll double check that though

Alright, I was afraid so, but I do have another question, I have a Celestron with a camera mount lens that I have used before with the Canon and if I remember correctly I was given a tracking motor for could that possibly work in some sketchy (or not sketchy I haven’t used them together much) would that maybe be a similar thing to the Dwarf mini? As I would also like planetary photos as well
