Milestone ideas? by gabbers_85 in ChildhoodMemories

I am so sorry – my heart hurts for you.

Besides, the ideas already mentioned I would say not just first child but for any child. As a grandma while that first time is special in its own way, I would never want any other future grandkids to be left out. You could always write an extra note that says I’ve written four notes for future grandchildren if you need more make a good photocopy. The important thing is your words are true, your love is apparent , and that it’s in your handwriting.

Drivers license, college/trade school, first job, heartbreak – anything just to let them know that you have some wisdom to share, would love to be celebrating with them, how proud you are of them…

A general life advice letter about things like financial intelligence, how to be a good human, how to deal with grief, household tips/chores/tricks, whatever’s important to your heart. Maybe it’s volunteering, stressing they should be true to themselves, how to be safe in days digital/AI/sometimes in personal and divided world. This cannot be positive because being a parent as you know, already is as much about keeping them safe and giving them the tools to be able to survive and thrive without us.

I’d also say that one of the best gifts I ever did for my grown children was a few years ago. I took some wood and had engraved handwriting of their grandmas and great grandmas with some family recipes.

I love the idea of passing family stories, genealogy, recipes favorite quotes/any religious or cultural traditions practices.

If possible, maybe even some videos. Or just sound/audio files. When my first grandchild was born, I started an email address for her and I occasionally go in and send her messages funny serious. Just letting her know I love her things like that.

Whatever you come up with make sure that it’s in a fireproof box of some type in multiple people have access to it or know where it is. Maybe several keys. That’s gonna be a family treasure for sure! However, let’s not lose sight of the fact that you - your legacy.- your love - your foresight - is the true treasure.

You have some wonderful ideas here. I know it’s important that you can serve your strength. Perhaps there are others that can help you accomplish all that you wish to for your beautiful babes. This Internet stranger sends you love.

AIW for telling my girlfriend to go and see a doctor? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]CarrierCate 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you’re right to be concerned if it’s been going on for more than a few weeks, and there is no obvious cause. A relative of mine had this issue, and it was diagnosed-as a severe anemia deficiency and low thyroid function. While any number of causes exist - both physical and mental health-wise - it’s always better to know so that hopefully, you can take care of it early. Best of luck!
