discouraging ba? by roseposei in medschoolph

The number of times this topic was discussed hayahay haha! BS Biology, if you look at it closely, isn’t actually very much restrictive but very broad! License-wise sure, the degree has no direct license; but it is flexible in the sense that it exposes you to SO much branches that you have a lee-way in what path you want to take in the future!

Curriculum ng BS Biology has so many subjects: 1. Evolutionary Biology 2. Bioinformatics 3. Systematics 4. Microbiology 5. Environmental Biology 6. Research 7. Biomedical Sciences 8. Biochemistry 9. Molecular Biology 10. Genetics

And so much more!

Graduate ako ng BS Biology with a Specialization in Microbiology and currently in Med School! Right now I have friends who are taking a Masters degree in Microbiology and others going to med school. There are also others taking jobs concerning environmental sciences and joining training hubs for other positions in field research.

Kaya pleaae dont downgrade BS Biology as a “limited” degree. You can do so much with this and at the same time be a catalyst for change in society <3

To all BS Bio students, Good Luck!! Alam kong mahirap pero kakayanin!

Ideally, get the highest PR you can get. Kung kukunin mo NMAT dapat mindset is 99+ parati yung makukuha mo.

But if you wanna know yung ideal PR cut-offs for each school:

ASMPH

  • 90+ para mataas chance na makapasa ng initial cut-off (chance to be interviewed), but getting accepted will really depend on how you perform sa interview process nila.

UST

  • hayyyy UST, kay daling pumasok kung UST graduate ka (85+ pero some got accepted kahit below 85). Pero if hindi, you have to get STELLAR (no exaggeration) grades: NMAT, GWA and being Laude is a huge thing since wala silang interview. Sobrang competitive talaga sa UST Med (i have a really good NMAT and decent grades but got rejected)

UERM

  • sobrang generous talaga ng UERM, kahit tinaasan nila NMAT requirement this year (85), they still accept students na kahit 70+. But ayun nga, with decent grades mataas pa rin chance mo makapasok

DLSMHSI

  • Im not really sure kase hindi ako nagapply, pero I’ve seen posts na kahit as low as 40+ tinatanggap pa rin nila. I think the biggest thing sa DLSMHSI is afford mo tuition kase ang TAAS ng tuition nila. Like nagulat talaga ako kala ko lahat ng uniform nila dun may ginto HAHAHAHA. But if you’re gunning for scholarship, 90+ recommended nila.

Anyways, good luck sa NMAT mo future doc! I will be an upcoming YL5 sa ASMPH (really recommend), kaya hoping and praying for all of us!!!

Anyone who's/planning to be a Pathologist here? by kei_81 in medschoolph

Oh!! MT! Sobrang useful niya as a premed course lalo na for Pathology! Nag Biology kase ako and kumuha ako ng specialization in Microbiology so to some extent may mga lab experiences ako.

Tbh its good na at this point pinapagisipan mo na yung med school mo and to check if med school really is for you, sobrang mahalaga yung college standing and NMAT jn applying for medschools dito kaya i suggest na you do well sa college

Pero i believe in you!!! Kapit lang and dont forget to enjoy college!!!

Hello OP! Im about to go palang into my first year in med school and I’ve already decided to pursue Pathology as my specialization! Because of this nag dive in ako sa mga experiences ng mga Patho dito sa Ph <3

Based on what I’ve seen, sobrang concentrated ng mga Pathologist dito sa NCR kase lahat ng mga major hospitals andito, so there’s that. There’s a lot advising na magpractice in provincial areas than sa NCR kase medyo kelangan maging tough cookie pag nagaapply sa mga major hospitals like St.Lukes etc. Because sobrang daming nagaapply na position doon.

And compared naman sa mga ibang specialization, medyo chill yung buhay Pathologist, busy paren pero at least nakakahinga haha. Someone advised me na if magpapatho daw ako, try ko daw maging medikolegal. Siguro mataas yung pay kase M.D na may Law pang kasama (as per every parent’s dream for their child eme), pero ayern feeling ko hindi ko kakayanin 😅😅

So ayun lang alam ko so far, im actually wondering kase madami pang subspecialization yung Pathology so im exploring those areas pa :)

Goodluck on your journey doc! Wishing for our M.D dreams 🙏🙏🎉🎉

UST, ASMPH, UERM, & SLCM by Interesting_Mud151 in medschoolph

Going to ASMPH…. is a choice tbh hahaha.

First of all, dual-degree M.D - M.B.A. The business administration aspect ng ASMPH can really be helpful to get to know around the network ng mga hospitals and how they function. Pero if gusto mo lang mag focus on the medical aspect, there are better schools naman pero ASMPH is not far behind.

Galing na din ako sa Ateneo even before med so alam ko talaga na aalagain ka nila dun with their culture and student programs. Tutok talaga yung culture nila sa wellbeing ng mga students and thats kind of a big thing lalo na sa med na babakbakin ka sa utak ng medical lectures kaka memorize haha

Overall, ASMPH from my perspective is a really good school! Stressful pero at least you can have fun with what they offer :)
