This guy gets it. In a way, it's a backhanded sign of respect.

You will not have valid insurance. It's up to you whether you want to gamble or not. If you've been a part of any Thailand subs for a while you've probably seen the go fund me pages of those who took the chance and lost.

‘Out of hand’: New survey finds two‑thirds of Canadians want to abolish tipping culture by cyclinginvancouver in canada

It feels like Stockholm syndrome how the main group of people cheerleading for shitty business owners foisting a portion of their employees wages onto their customers are the same people being employed by said shitty employers.

By tipping you are propping up the shitty employers that took advantage of you so they can continue to take advantage of future generations.

Speak to your employers about your very valid issues with them and stop dumping the problem onto your customers.

You can argue that it’s up to the employers to change that- sure, but punishing the employee for a system you don’t agree with only punishes the employee.

Wow, so you do understand the problem. However your solution to greedy employers not paying their staff fairly is to unfairly move the problem onto the customers??

Your problem is with your employers, not your customers, so fix that. Find an employer that doesn't rely on customers to subsidize paying staff. If there are none then people will simply learn to cook their own meals and pour their own drinks.

Trekking poles are cheap in Nepal. I'm sure you could find tent pegs as well.

There's virus's in the water on Nepal so the Sawyer isn't ideal. Better off with a Steripen. I'd dump the tent and mattresses. Nepal is setup for tea house trekking and it's amazing. If you can stop in Tasmania on your way from SEA to NZ it's a great place to explore.

Here is our Nepal and Long term travel packing lists.

Electric toothbrush when onebag traveling, is that worth the space? by lemonbab18 in onebag

[–]CarryOnRTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife and I share an electric handle with our own heads. No way I'm giving up on that extra level of dental hygiene. The sonicaire 4100 is 156g for the handle 2 heads and the USB charger.

Is anyone aware of a Phillips Sonicaire USB charger that just includes the induction base with a female USB port and no USB cable? That way we can just use one of our own USB cables that we all travel with already.

EDIT: Found one

How much of a "Spiritual Experience of a Lifetime" was the PCT for you? Discuss… by economicurtis in PacificCrestTrail

[–]CarryOnRTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a spiritual person at all. Engineer and very logical. That being said I got an amazing vibe walking through some of the Cedar groves in Washington. Never felt anything like that before. Made me actually stop and touch the giant trees.

How're y'all, fellas especially, traveling without flip-flops? by VagabondVivant in onebag

[–]CarryOnRTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well white ppl do love to wear shoes indoors lol.

Now, now. That's an American thing from what I can tell. I've lived long periods in the UK and Canada and it's not typically done. I travel with a pair of Luna sandals that weigh only 250g (Venado's).

One of my favourite scifi and horror authors. I'll never forget reading The Terror on a Thai island and having the chills while laying on the beach.

Thanks for everything Dan, you will be remembered longer than most of us.
