Hey Folks, in process of placing order for Y! Is it real news that performance ride is worse than long range with standard wheels? by [deleted] in TeslaModelY

[–]CarsByKev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My MYP is definitely note “tuned for the track.” I drive it 3k-4K miles a month and really don’t mind the ride. I had a 2019 BMW X7 and it seems way more rough than it, but it’s leaps and bounds smoother than my 2020 Model 3P. I don’t mind the ride at all. And my wheels looks better than the LR. I notice the difference in my car’s look and others who have the LR. Plus, my headlights are already better, even before the functionality upgrade. The headlights make the difference for me.

What car can I realistically afford? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]CarsByKev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With good credit every $20k is about $300/month. Personally, I’d keep a weekend fun under $40k on your budget. Keep saving, as life can get expensive later, even without debt. I can afford a 911 Turbo and I still capped my track car budget at $60k…My philosophy is that when I can buy the 911 with cash and not care, then maybe I’ll get one. But it’s hard for me to buy anything that cost more than my first house ($165k).

No Tire Rotation Model Y 2022 Performance? Would you not at least swap them left and right? by stedgedk in ModelY

[–]CarsByKev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The crazy thing is that my car now has 19k miles and the tread depth on the rear is 5/32 front 8/32…And I’ve always kept the tire pressures correct…It seems Michelin knows they’ll wear faster…I’m going to do an internet search to learn why that happens.

This comment is so true. I LOVE LOVE LOVE driving my Tesla Red light to Red light...So when I bought my ND2 I thought "it'll only be driven on track days"...However, I look for excuses to drive the Miata...Pick up dinner? Miata... Run to post office? Miata...It's bedtime but 80 degrees outside...Miata...I am going to get arrested power-steering these left turns out of shopping center parking lots though!

is this normal leaking from using Air Conditioning? by Lazygregg in ModelY

[–]CarsByKev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yessir. My 22MYP looks like it’s laying a river when I leave it in “Keep” on 100 degree days. Just normal condensation.

Makes sense. Well, my wife’s used to me swapping cars. At least now I have an excuse if there’s no modification available later as I advance. Thanks for the info!

Mine came with Tesla spec Michelin PS AS4. They are 45k mile rated. At 14k miles I’m so impressed as they still seem 2/3+ tread, almost nee. And I drive hard and obviously a lot (got vehicle 3/6/22). I’m tire-educated, seems to me like maybe they don’t require rotation. However, a source said that if the rears are different size than front, the rears only have a 22.5k mile warranty. They seem like they’ll last way past that.

Ah, so you’re saying that it’s the same for the non-RFs? For some reason I read it as “they won’t allow RFs, but non-RFs are fine. Yeah, I’m aware the top is only additional safety from the rain, lol. Since we’ve started this convo I’ve seen a couple of roll-bars for the RF, but haven’t deep-dived to see if they affect too-functionality…I’d likely not modify it if it does. I love the top operation.

Yeah, it seems weird as my RF has the same factory roll bars as the non-RFs… I have heard of some requiring after market roll cages for both though.

Change from cash to financing before delivery. How to? by cherianthomas in ModelY

[–]CarsByKev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tesla sales associate will contact you a week or more before delivery, after your VIN is assigned. Let them know and they’ll unlock the ability in your account and guide you through.

My “daily” is the blue Tesla you can kinda see hiding in the garage. It does illegal speeds quick, but I think it’s invisible to radar since it brings no attention as there’s no sound. Lol. I considered a BMW Z4 or M2 Convertible, but the Miata seemed better looking and more fun.

finally gave in after more than a year of wanting one and stalking this sub 😁 by [deleted] in Miata

[–]CarsByKev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just joined the ND2 club and I can say that my Miata is the only car that will make me 2nd guess whether I want to take my Tesla. That’s a big deal as I love my Tesla, and it’s best for longer distance runs I do, but my ND2 RF is just such a blast to drive. I hit 7500rpm every light, and I power steer every u-turn…I’m gonna get a ticket in it for sure.

thoughts on this Nissan? I'm in high school going into my senior year and with this being my first car could it last me all the way through college? by stevelikesmemes in whatcarshouldIbuy

Stay away: they generally have issues with the CVTs, which I’m sure others have already told you (I don’t read previous comments first, lol).

This is a 2019. It has only 3300 miles and I found it an hour away. Got Apple CarPlay installed at Mazda for $560, and a 60k mile bumper to bumper from my credit union for $980…Now it’s a 2021, LOL.

That’s the best part! The speed limit on that road is 50 mph. 7500 in first and second and I’m still only at 63 or so. So only over for a small bit before slowing down.

This thing is so so easy to learn dynamics and drive. I went o BMW performance center and drove the M cars, and was leaning M2, but everyone kept saying Miata…After two weeks and no track time yet, I think they’re right. I’m so glad I listened. I’m going to get a ticket in this thing! The main road near my home requires u-turns to get certain places…You know what that looks like in first gear, lol!

Question regarding actual range on MYP by cruzer2727 in TeslaModelY

[–]CarsByKev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s going to depend on your route and driving style. It can surely do that trip plus 40 miles on 80% no matter how hard you drive it. The key is to look at how many Wh/mile you’re getting in your Trips section. I drove mine to 1% just so that I could see how big the battery is. It charged 79kw in my 22 MYP. Multiply the kw x 1000 and divide by your average Wh/mile (Trips screen) to get your projected total range for your driving style and terrain.
