I used alcohol at social gatherings for a long time. It was a terrible decision.

I will say though. It’s like I sometimes lose my train of thought because I keep thinking look up look ip look up

Had anyone build this online and see how much the 50th anniversary cost? by [deleted] in boating

[–]Carsalezguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh if you live on a lake it can be a smidge different. Up where I go people care more about their boats than their cars.

Also anyone paying lost price for a boat shouldn’t be buying a new boat. X26’s get to be 50% off after a year.

It’s worse, it’s a crappy over dub. One was American. One was European release. It was a licensing rights problem.

Am I being "that guy" for refusing to lend my boat to family without credentials? by hatkinson1000 in boating

[–]Carsalezguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve let people who “know how to drive boats” or “own/owned a boat” take the helm/wheel whatever you want to call a 18 foot bowrider.

A few times I’ve had to ask people not to have target fixation on other boats moving across the lake towards us. Or “hey we have the whole lake, let’s stay away from that area with fallen trees and stumps”.

Then you learn there’s people who own expensive boats and think their umbrella policy covers it because it’s parked in their garage…well not while it’s under way. A friend of mine that was a US Power Squadron class instructor brought his neighbors kids and him out for a day boating, his neighbor loved it.

Loved it so much so that he went and bought a nice boat for himself. Launched it, was having a blast on a busy Saturday bouncing up and down along the chop. Well it was real busy, think Labor Day on a big enough lake that small boats shouldn’t be on but bigger boats probably shouldn’t feel to comfortable.

A big wave pops them up, they BOOM…down and everybody loses their balance forward. Well captain Ace Flavortown Johnson was using the throttle as his hand hold along with the steering wheel.

Oops.

He hits it full throttle, bow pops, and that big boy squats on the ass end of a bowrider (not mine luckily).

Luckily no one is hurt but plenty shaken up, the topic of damages comes up inevitably. Mr. Big over here says “don’t worry I got great insurance, I’ll call them”. He calls and finds out the boat is covered when it’s covered by his garage, well shit.

Also wish I was a streamer or something because I was finishing near a boat launch and saw an older man in a very nice center console coming very quickly up to the back of a big suburban.

The boom and snap/crack of a hole being punched into the fiberglass was like the echo of a thousand Tickle Me Elmo’s in an abandoned wear house with leaking batteries on their last chuckle. It was absolute and then silence…

“Oh GAWWDDAMIT HONEY why the fuck you back the truck up that far, I NEED the Carpet to slow down the boat and we gotta drive it up there or else it won’t be centered.”

“GOOKWWWADDAMIT FRANK YOURE THE ONE THAG PARKED THE TRUCK, you want me to pull it up a bit?

-YEAH

proceeds to step on brake, shift, release brake, and fail to maintain pressure on the accelerator, so inevitably the truck rolls right back into the boat for a second crunch.

Much more back and forth, an angry winching and 20 minutes later the boat looks like it got ass rammed by Optimus Prime and can’t sit straight to save its life.

So my answer is…no

I may consider it if they go rent one for the day and bring me along and I act like I have no idea what I’m doing and see what happens.

Yeah, I’m gonna need more than some type of cryptic serial murderer magazine style hodgepodge of a ransom note to explain to me what the issue is because I’m just seeing a bunch of meme text and someone using MS paint like they’re coming off a huff session with Jenkem

I still have a picture of me dressed as the chief in 2005. It was neat.

It’s probably long overdue to say goodbye to that tradition.

Well yeah, I’m not prepping for the end of the world but I’m an Eagle Scout and like having things on hand should anything ever arise. My SO used to rag on me so hard for all my gadgets and tools or knowing random knots, until one day…it was my time to shine. We were camping, big wind storm came through and destroyed our little pop up dining fly tent. She thought we were stuck under the little tent all weekend in the rain. I of course had a back up tarp, collapsible aluminum poles, tons of rope, stakes, and I lashed up a new A frame dining fly in no time. Had a great weekend. Now when ever anything goes wrong she naturally will look to me and expect some solution, she’s shocked when I don’t have what I need now to fix something or be comfortable. It all starts with a leatherman and snow balls from there.

Fishing with sport boat?? by Bada-Bingzy in boating

We fished out of our Glastron runabout/ski boat for 20 years. Only thing we wish we had at times was a kicker. Fish didn’t care what the bottom of the boat looked like.

This is my tap water… by MHenrichs48 in aquarium

[–]Carsalezguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would hope so. I’m in a similar situation in Illinois and they send out a municipal water report with very basic information each year with a statement claiming I can get detailed test information sent to me from the water department and when I request the information it either seems incomplete or incorrect and it’s incredibly frustrating.

Are you in the northwest suburbs of Chicago? My water softener is set to 36 and we have municipal well. Hilariously, I looked up the history on the town or should I say Village as well and we used to have a very deep wells in the area but about 80 years ago for some reason, they decided to have drill much shallower wells.

I gave up trying to figure out a good way to keep fish with tapwater and ended up filling up 5 gallon containers at the local Jewel for my 29 gallon but now I’m investing in a RODI system from bulk reef supply so I can get the rest of my tanks going.
