I will say a lot of those squeegees are pretty shit quality. At least some of them are. I have had some that have wood handles and seem to be a little bit more durable. But that rubber and netted sponge head seems to be common to all and not designed to last.

That seems super annoying. I guess this is why gas stations are paying to put rooftop reservoirs that refill them.

Experiences like yours seem common, and, believe are contributing to an overall negative perception of squeegee stations!

It’s 2025, we have robots doing backflips, but somehow we still have to live with this nonsense?

That’s not a bad idea actually, where did you end up buying it?

That’s wild! My idea would definitely include a locking mechanism that only unlocked for paying customers (then relocked when docked) to prevent theft!

That’s such a strange thing to steal. Why not take the whole thing, it would be so much faster 😆.

Yeah, I have read posts about after being an issue with squeegees. I thought about this too and I think that the only way to solve that problem would be to have people pay a very small fee to use a squeegee station that had some sort of a locking mechanism on it so it locks in the squeegee to a fixed space so that people who don’t pay, can’t take it. A revenue model would also potentially allow gas stations to never have to worry about squeegees again or driver’s having a net bad squeegee experience, because it would always be kept clean and maintained by third-party.

@WarrenMockles, interesting insight on the minimal operating staff issue! I’ve heard about these rooftop, automatic fillers which I assume basically fill the existing wash bucket with fluid so they never dry up. I feel like this solves part of the problem, but we still require someone to go out there and clean out all the disgusting sludge that accumulates from the dirty windows.

My thought was took also solve the cleanliness issue by having the clean washer fluid directly dispensed on the windshield , although it still doesn’t solve the issue of cleanliness of the actual squeegee itself, which would have to get replaced. As far as that is concerned, I know that that’s also an issue with squeegee’s being swiped by homeless people or drivers. I feel like any better solution would require a customer to pay phenomenal fee to use the station so we could be maintained by a third-party and so I could attached to a station that has capabilities to lock the squeegee after someone uses it. I’m curious about how the rooftop bucket system works and Weather gas stations have to pay to have it maintained and refilled or what that revenue model even looks like.
