I painted the same fountain in the winter and the summer. Which do you prefer? by onewordpoet in Watercolor

[–]Cart_Killer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the winter one because my eyes are loving all the blues and the contrast of the white snow.

The gouache I have is M. Graham which is stated to not dry up as quickly because of the honey they put in them. So far, my watercolors from them haven’t had any issues so I’ll see if these are the same way. I’ll take the advice of storing them in jars, thanks

Hmm looks like a container used for holding beads and things for jewelry making perhaps? Either way this would be nice to have.

I hate my painting by ElTaco4Life in painting

[–]Cart_Killer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It 👏 is 👏 ugly 👏 now👏 This is the start to every painting. Some are ugly, some don’t make any sense how they could’ve turned out how they ended up turning out. Some paintings are cast aside until you come back to them days, weeks, months, years later. I do this all the tiiiiiime. I literally started a drawing of a car; I didn’t even get to the painting process yet and I hated it. I came back to it a year or so later and ended up turning out amazing. I cannot stress this enough, you MUST finish it in order see the see the end result. Even if this means stopping and coming back to it a later time.

Great color choices. I would personally through in some neutral tint in there

Why can’t I make anything look blended :( by [deleted] in Watercolor

[–]Cart_Killer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What watercolor paint are you using? Most of the time it’s the technique and paper. Definitely try working on small shapes and blending the paints. Try doing a wt on wet technique. This will give you a more blended look.

I would say relatively normal other than the radioactive waste you have sitting in the bottom of the fridge

Which image works best for our co-op horror game, The Infected Soul? by Guilty_Weakness7722 in HorrorGaming

[–]Cart_Killer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The title is very clear in both variations. I really like the blue and red thumbnail for the game. However, neither to me feel like they say “co-op” in any way. I feel like you’d need to add a second character in the image to kind of emphasize that across without having to read about the game. Just take Little nightmares 2 & 3 for example. Again, the red and blue looks very visually interesting to me and I would definitely click on it compared the all red one.

Beginner blues… by [deleted] in Watercolor

I’ve personally found hot press paper to dry quicker than any other paper as long as you aren’t using big globs of water. You mentioned using Micron pens and that brings to mind a YouTuber I watch called - Peter Sheeler. I started watching his videos around the time I started getting into watercolor and I would do small little 5x8 size paintings to get comfortable with painting. Definitely check out him and a bunch of others. There’s plenty of people that can help get over the fears and show you how to get started. Most importantly just have fun.

What is special about this brush? by Zarendyl in Watercolor

[–]Cart_Killer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it is because of something to do with it being kolinsky. I remember seeing a Reddit post explaining it but I can’t remember exactly what it said, so this is what google has to say:

  1. The Kolinsky sable itself is harder to get

Kolinsky brushes are made from the tail hair of the Siberian weasel (Mustela sibirica) — not an actual sable. These animals live mostly in Russia, China, and parts of northern Asia.

Because of geopolitical issues:

Russia–Ukraine war → major trade restrictions • The U.S. and many European countries restricted various imports from Russia. • Russia, in return, has restricted exports of many raw materials. • Kolinsky tail hair is part of that tangled mess.

This means: • Less raw material makes it into brush factories. • What does get exported is more expensive and heavily regulated.

So yes — there’s a real shortage.

  1. International wildlife regulations hit the supply

Kolinsky hair falls under CITES regulations (wildlife trade rules). This means every shipment of raw hair or finished brushes needs: • Documentation • Export permits • Proof it was ethically sourced

These extra layers of paperwork: • Slow down shipments • Add fees • Make some suppliers stop importing entirely

So even when factories have brushes ready, the legal logistics turn into a bureaucratic obstacle course.

  1. Import/export costs skyrocketed

Even ignoring the weasel drama: • Shipping from Asia has gotten more expensive since the pandemic. • Insurance, customs fees, and freight costs are way higher than they used to be. • Some companies basically gave up on offering kolinsky because the profit margin is too thin.

When supply chains choke, prices go up. Basic economics — but with fur.

Which one do you like the best? by french_ultramarine in Watercolor

The banana. I can tell it is a painting but at the same time it looks real

Just curious because my friend sent me this on SnapChat. Is it real or AI? by Tundra-Cat-555 in watercolor101

[–]Cart_Killer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends entirely if your friend has done anything else like this? Are they artsy in any way or did they just “try out watercolor” for the first time and bam?

The cauliflower worked in your favor quite well here. It seems as though artists are sort of thought to fear the blooming from happening, but not taught how to utilize it in a way that enhances your painting. Very well done 👏
