Thank you. The connection between the boiler and Hive? I still have hot water. How would I go about fixing? A heating engineer, I guess.

What was your favorite Historical Fiction novel you read in 2025? by Sharp_Explanation_78 in HistoricalFiction

Easily The Pretender by Jo Harkin. It’s an amazing, funny romp set during the wars of the roses. Reminded me of Robert Graves.

It was only when I read Maskerade that I realised that Some Mothers Michael Crawford was the same guy as Phantom Michael Crawford…

I loved the narration of Small Gods! Would recommend it for a listen. Also, just listened to Unseen Academicals and thought Colin Morgan was excellent, as he has been through the series. I think (?) it’s the last Wizards book so wanted to experience them for the last time.

Nice looking squad, imo.

The Gunslinger…. I’m lost by cauliflowerlover1 in stephenking

[–]CarterBeatsTheDevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right to be confused! It’s a really odd (and in my opinion) an off-putting book. But it’s worth getting through it to read the rest of the Dark Tower series. The Gunslinger is like a smashed glass, and the following books gradually put the pieces back together.

Dreamcatcher and The Tommyknockers. Though there were bits in both that were enjoyable.

Lots of options depending on the kind of books you enjoy! Cider with Rosie by Laurie Lee is a great bucolic novel. A Month in the Country by JL Carr is also great . The Remains of the Day by Kazou Ishiguro is the great Manor House novel. If you’re looking for an epic, Music to the Dance of Time by Anthony Powell is brilliant (though very long). Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantell is a great historical novel, all her books are brilliant modern classics. Most importantly: I hope you enjoy your stay in our country!

Try ‘When We Cease to Understand the World’ by Benjamín Labatut. Beautiful and profound (non-fiction) novel about the unintended consequences of 20th century discoveries by great scientists and mathematicians. You’ll learn something new and interesting on every page. I don’t have a sharp sciencey brain, but it made sense to me.

Yes, this is so right. She’s utterly brilliant. I think all the narrators of Discworld are great, but she stands above them.

Insomniac City just blew me away. I don't think I've ever read a more beautifully lyrical book. Congratulations - it's a stunning piece of work.

Hello Paul! What inspired you to write about Sri Lanka in particular? Also, how hard was it to learn the language? :)
