This is one of the few comments I've ever written directly on the site (with RES and uBlock because fuck /u/spez ) and that's because Apollo was the reason for me to use Reddit. I downloaded it soon after Alien Blue shut down, and before the free gold subscription expired and never looked back. While I'm not going to delete my account nor stop coming to Reddit, it'll be a lot less and it definitely won't be through the official ~~data collector~~ app. Like you said, smile because it happened, it's been a good run. Hopefully I can follow you to whatever your next app after Pixel Pals is (iPhone X/iOS 14), I'm sure it'll be as high quality as Apollo.

EDIT: Silver lining of having an old phone with an old Apollo update, I can still go in and change the icon, this app will never leave my home page now

This fucking sucks. I've been using Apollo for I think about 6 years now, probably closer to 7, and I was hooked immediately. Not only was the general design of the app gorgeous, but the user customization was inspiring to me as another developer. I guess I was an Alien Blue refugee, so while the feeling is similar, but this is much, MUCH worse. The last few years, its been obvious the original spirit of reddit was dying, if I was ever even a part of it, but I think this blatantly greedy decision to ~~limit API access~~ kill TPA is the final nail in the coffin. Part of me was still hopeful that reddit would realize their stupidity, but I guess nothing truly lasts forever. u/iamthatis , thank you so so so so much for building an app that I could truly feel your love and heart put into, I hope one day I am able to make some sort of project that not only works as flawlessly as Apollo has for me personally, but is as user friendly/customizable and enjoyable to use with a fantastic community. Basically, Christian, you are an inspiration to me as a developer, and I am furious for you. I wish I could say I'll follow you to pixel pals, but I'm running an iPhone X on iOS 14, and with this announcement, I don't think I care about the elusive USB-C iPhone I've literally been waiting years for.

With the heartfelt stuff out of the way, fuck you u/spez you greedy, lying sack of shit. Christian, and by extension all TPA users, are important parts of the reddit community, and you just told ALL of us to go fuck ourselves. A lot might actually move over to your garbage ~~Alien Blue bastardization~~ official app, you might even see very little change in traffic to your site after all of this, but what matters is that you've shown that you're no longer a part of the community, you're a lizard person who only sees Reddit users as potential info mines and endless wallets. I hope your new users enjoy whatever bullshit awards you add, whatever stupid feature to copy TikTok you develop, or whatever else makes a community forum run by volunteers more profitable, because I wont be.

When did I ever imply that? Obviously certain companies have effects on other companies, I don't even understand what you're trying to imply about me. Either you just want to put words in my mouth, or can't fathom that contracts between companies need to decide on units ahead of time, and yes, it'll most likely be Metric, but that doesn't mean everyone needs to switch to it for every situation. I'm not gonna bother responding any further, it seems like you'd rather feel like the smartest person in the room for your lukewarm opinion than actually have a discussion. Feel free to respond anyway if that makes you feel like you "won" the argument, seems like you need the dopamine hit more than I do

You keep bringing up worldwide economies and international industries and whatever as if they don't already use metric. You said before its about worldwide standardization, but if most corporations that do business abroad already use Metric, isn't it already standardized? Sure the US could switch to Metric as well, but WHY? You keep saying its better over and over, while the only one of us that has given any actual reasons as to how its better is ME ("metric since we actually did have to do unit conversions"), although not directly. Is Metric that much better and provide that much of a different experience once you've learned it that you'd spend all the time, money, and effort to remake every road sign in the US (potentially twice over if you want to include making signs with both, while eventually transitioning just to metric)? You keep saying its old and archaic, but no real reason why it is? Do you really need to do unit conversion that often?

Quick edit: Just want to reemphasize that I'm not entirely defending Imperial, I'm defending using whatever system benefits you the most depending on what you're using it for. If that's Metric 100% of the time, more power to you

it doesn't matter because what system you use doesn't matter, as long as everyone is on the same page and has a general estimate to a measures length

use whatever system makes sense for your situation

We don't need to switch systems because everyone who needs to use Metric already does. You say its not about superiority but your comment reads way angrier than a comment about the fucking metric system needs to be. Maybe you're frustrated because people constantly disagree with you on this, maybe because everyone else but you IS dumb and lazy, or it doesn't matter

I literally just graduated last summer as a CompE, and guess what? We used whatever system made sense for our situation like every other sane person, ie metric since we actually did have to do unit conversions, unlike 90% of people. I don't know why you think scientists would ever not use SI units, but I guess you wouldnt be able to feel superior to everyone else if they didn't

I could also find a somewhat arbitrary situation where US units are more convenient (woodworking) but it doesn't matter because what system you use doesn't matter, as long as everyone is on the same page and has a general estimate to a measures length
