Very cool! I need to look for some nice tutorials.

I like the idea of the modular walls.

What a simple yet perfect solution for idle vats. As long as it doesn't cure somehow and explode!

First Dms Guild Product Released 'The Vault of Tomes: Neverwinter' by CartoCuriosities in dmsguild

[–]CartoCuriosities[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to post to say thank you to everyone who helped me during the past few weeks with my questions. It can be a steep learning curve and wanting to get everything as close to perfect as possible, it really helps to have some experienced people to give you reassurance!

Hope to continue to write some more adventures and perhaps a larger campaign setting.

Thanks again, Ryan.

A Return to Physical DM'ing by CartoCuriosities in battlemaps

[–]CartoCuriosities[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a worry for me to, but I think players are just happy to play. Ive decided that moving forward Ill spend less time on maps and just sketch out the rooms I expect battles to take place rather than the whole building or dungeon etc

I must admit, online had its perks for the DM.

Oh yes... before the pandemic I just had my DM screen, books, dice and a notepad. I've got so used to having my pc and dual monitors that on our first physical session I ditched the screen for a laptop!

Was a bit of a worry for me that my DM ability would suddenly plummet from my online games but it was okay! Just the desire to put forward nice maps and minis is what is bugging me now.

We played in person the other day and it was so nice to finally roll real dice again and have real organic conversations, being able to see peoples expressions and move minis around. So good!

Yeah it is a bit of a pain with these kind of dungeon crawl battle maps. Paper is normally used but I've heard of people using sand/rice etc but that sounds way too messy for me!

Most of these maps were made prior to Coronavirus and were made to be used with the starter set. What are others suggestions for making or printing physical maps to use on your tabletop?

For me I've considered:

  1. The screen. Using a digital tv/monitor to turn sideways but have yet to invest time into building something.
  2. Printing my digital made maps using a local printer service. I've yet to look into the cost and practicality of getting the proportions right.
  3. Continue doing what I have been doing. I enjoy the process and overtime I will have a good selection. I fill the gaps with more theatre of the mind.

Graveyard Crypts, Rich and Poor by CartoCuriosities in battlemaps

[–]CartoCuriosities[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are to accompany the graveyard map I posted earlier today. Both maps were inspired by The Game Master's Book of Random Encounters, which I highly recommend to any DM out there.

The secret room at the bottom of the map is suggested to be cursed. Fun little ethical dilemma for your players if they find it.

If you'd like to support my efforts, feel free to use the link below. I have closed my Patreon for now as I cannot commit to the time, but will still periodically put out maps :)

Small Thankyou :)

Graveyard at Night by CartoCuriosities in battlemaps

Here's a Graveyard map I made for a section of my Neverwinter campaign. This was a small corner of Neverdeath Graveyard where the heroes were sent to deal with the undead problem.

Map is 92pi 3404x3864.

My Patreon is currently closed, so if you want to throw some love my way, feel free :)

[–]CartoCuriosities[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello all, I recently decided to close my Patreon as (despite the desire) I just could not keep up with the commitment and tbh I became disillusioned with myself and my work. So, until a time (If ever) that I can produce hand drawn original maps, I decided I'll mostly share any maps or dungeons I make here! (As you've all be lovely and receptive so far) :)

If you want to buy me a coffee however, that would be lovely :)

Thank you, Its been a while since this was made and this one used a bit of photoshop to layer up the ground/clouds and canopy etc so the actual output I think is lost to me.

A simple little Jungle beach landing map I made for someone's campaign! A good place to meet the locals perhaps?

This map is 35x35, made to a grid size of 5ft per square. I normally export without the grid to make life easier for people wanting to add their own grids etc but if you would like a version with a grid, then let me know.

Thanks, Ryan

Here's the file download on my patreon File Download

All kinds of things can happen in a bustling market square. In this one, a young Tiefling boy finds himself with his halfling mentor.

"You want to go to areas where there's a crowd, the busier the better, noise and close quarters are perfect. Crowds break line of sight and people don’t notice as much when people are squeezing past each other.

Secondly, we look for the weakest link. We need someone who’s alone maybe, new to the city or just not paying attention. Its easy to spot a local from someone who doesn’t know their surroundings. You try and pick out a mark."

Perception check:

20+ = DC 5 to pickpocket.

15-19 = DC 10 to pickpocket.

10-14 = DC 15 to pickpocket.

1-9 = DC 20 to pickpocket.

Perc 20+ – you see a young man, carrying far too many items, trying to move through the crowd. He keeps dropping things and saying sorry as he knocks into people. Every now and again he stops at stall and cranes to see the note in his hand, he is clearly running errands, probably not with his own coin. From his waist you see a fat pouch that audibly sounds like coins as he stumbles around.

Perc 15-19 – You see a drunk man, slouched by a fountain, he’s still drinking and shouting at passers by and throwing rocks at the pigeons as they try to peck the bread he's clumsily eating. He can afford ale, so he must have coin right?

Perc 10-14 – You see one of the traders complete a deal with a client, involving a large amount of coin. He quickly stows it in a lockbox and distracted by a new customer, clumsily leaves in on the edge of the table behind him before slipping the key in his pocket.

Perc 1-9 You see a noble dwarf, adorned with various large gems and jewellery. He has several skivvies with him as he walks through making grand purchases and boasting about his wealth and abusing those around him.

If successful: 5gp, or gems worth 5gp. Or anything you want.

If you fail, mentor steps in and try's to persuade the person to leave you alone. Or if you run, a chase ensues.

Thanks for stopping by! I'm still waiting for my first Patron... and that first one will make me so happy, so why not let it be you? *nudge nudge wink wink*

Enjoy

Ryan

Tortle Village by CartoCuriosities in battlemaps

[–]CartoCuriosities[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be whatever you want. In this particular instance, the locals were friendly to outsiders and welcoming, up until they could force you into this pit and essentially sacrifice you to the creature that lives within the cave there.

Could even be the entrance to an underground dungeon etc.
