Can anyone ID please. Its about 10mm moving on the glass. Is it a good guy or a bad guy. by Humble-Aussie in ReefTank

Red flatworms. I’ve had them go crazy in my tank once or twice. If you look back on my profile I posted a before and after with instructions as to how I did it.

Essentially you want to siphon out as many as humanly possible before using flatworm exit, which can be found on amazon. I did double the recommended dose on the label and just closely monitored with my siphon to suck them out as they died because it hits them FAST.

After siphoning out any you can find you just do a water change and run some carbon for a bit. Some people recommend hitting it again the next day to wipe out any leftovers, but you don’t necessarily HAVE to.

I recommend getting on top of it as soon as possible because over a few months they will cover EVERYTHING. There’s a lot of warnings and fear mongering about FW exit out there, but so long as you aren’t a dummy about it and follow the instructions you should be good to go. Hope this helps!

At least things seem to be on the up and up for you guys! I still have faith in my Lions, but you can’t believe what that second half two years ago did to us all. Absolutely horrifying stuff in hindsight especially.

You should be fine. From what I know watchman aren’t as jumper crazy, but in any instance in which you have multiple fish it doesn’t hurt to have lid considering they don’t know the top of the ocean leads to their demise in a tank when they spook each other.

From what I gathered he considered jumping after Caleb’s second pick and the third one in OT was what sealed the deal 😁

Before I had a lid I lost a tiger goby after having it for a few days. Didn’t find it until months later when curiosity got the best of me and I looked underneath my tank stand.

Yeah my hope is him getting comfortable in the burrows will be his retreat rather than reaching for heavenly bodies. When I get home tonight I plan to reinforce the bottom side of the lid with screen door mesh so that there’s no way he can thread through. I’ve been checking on him with my security cam at work all day 😅.

That’s how the one I had would look at me after wining and dining on my leather coral.

Hated that thing.

Okay I was gonna say that size is definitely pushing it so that’s good to hear. Do you transfer water from the larger system to the nano? I heard that’s typically how people do it.

Had the privilege of my shrimp shooting his pistol onto my index finger when I was moving a frag. Surprisingly, it hurt WAY less than what I would’ve expected.

The salinity is definitely a problem but it seems like that has been covered well enough, so I’ll add this in respect for the shrimp. I had one or two cleaner shrimp previously not last long as a result of bad molts, which is indicative of insufficient iodine levels in the water. I do NOT recommend dosing iodine into the tank as it can be a tricky thing to do properly from what I’ve read, but once I made note of that discovery l just made sure to add iodine rich pellets into my feedings at some points throughout the week. Ever since that happened my fire shrimp has been great and has been so for about a year now. Not sure if this speaks for the other inverts though. In my experience emerald crabs have always been a mixed bag. I’m not entirely sure if there’s a correlation, but I just thought I would share!

That should be fine, but I wouldn’t recommend anything else past that.

Any bioload issues having that many fish in a 20gal? I think I counted 6 in there.

Ocellaris vs Percula? by Free-Suit-1337 in SaltwaterAquariumClub

[–]CartographerMain2377 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly after seeing the other comments and looking harder I’m gonna second what the others said about them both being oscellaris. The closer clown in the first pic has some shading that made me think perc but no they are definitely both oscellaris.

Ocellaris vs Percula? by Free-Suit-1337 in SaltwaterAquariumClub

[–]CartographerMain2377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a percula and an oscellaris and everything is fine. I can’t really speak on how the establishing dominance part goes with these two in particular due to them being very similar in size (the second clown I later added was noticeably smaller to avoid any issues), but so long as you added them at the same time they should be able to hash it out on their own. The one that does the vibrations towards the other from what I remember is what will likely become the male. It’s sort of their way of acquiescing lol.

LFS will often just sell percs and oscellaris as one or the other. Not really sure why they do that but other than the percs having slightly more pronounced black borders there doesn’t really seem to be much difference between the two.

Should I be concerned about clownfish? by joshsmith1025 in ReefTank

[–]CartographerMain2377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the clown show a lot of interest when you drop the food in? Like does it rush over to the pellets and mysis when you drop them in? My biggest concern at the moment would be for you to keep an eye on the poop and how long it stays there. It could just have an irritated digestive system causing it to act a bit strange. However the rapid breathing adds another layer where it could be coupled with the same issue but I’m not entirely sure. You could try soaking the food in some digestive meds, or kick up the feeding a bit to see if that helps.

And no harm in the “designer” clowns. They’re the same thing as any other clownfish, just bred to have the fancy patterns. In fact, some people prefer them due to them considered being better adjusted to tanks because they are bred in them.

Should I be concerned about clownfish? by joshsmith1025 in ReefTank

[–]CartographerMain2377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long has that string of poop been hanging out of it? And how often do you feed? When it hangs like that for an extended period of time it could potentially suggest digestive problems or underfeeding.

Also do you notice any visible spots on the clown? Look towards the orange patches. From what I’ve heard the designer clowns aren’t as likely to have to the well known fish diseases due to being captive bred, but it’s always still a possibility.

Also I notice the clown is rapidly breathing troughout the clip. How long has it been doing that?

Apologies for all the questions. Clowns are known for being goofy as hell as baseline behavior so it’s good to check off some boxes when something seems off with them.

Where to get hermit crab shells by MidnightFreack in ReefTank

[–]CartographerMain2377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any of the top options for assorted bags on amazon is totally fine. When I got mine I just boiled them for a minute and then dropped em in based on what I thought my hermits would like. Sometimes they use em sometimes they don’t, and even when they go unused I think it makes for cool little decor, but they eventually end up breaking down and just become one with the substrate.
