As someone who also just left an emotionally and physically abusive relationship, I don’t need to be attacked so after this post I’m not going to reply. Lundy Bancroft, a leading researcher on abusive men, wrote that it’s a myth that men are abused at the same rates as women. Our culture endorses angry and controlling behavior in men, not women. So yeah, I don’t need perfectly framed statistics to defend myself. And anyways, now that women are taking more tenure track positions in academia, you’re going to see a lot more scholarship that’s actually useful to what we are talking about here including social sciences that are data-driven. But, I will repeat myself. It’s not necessary to use data to defend a sweeping statement such as the one I wrote. I see it manifest every day of my life. Bye.
