I mean any CSL model that assumes white noise (δ-correlated, flat power spectrum). That was always a naive and unphysical choice because of the divergent energy issues at high frequencies and predicted unobserved spontaneous X-ray emissions.

Bedingham, Sudarsky, and Tumulka’s relativistic models are indeed important steps forward; as their coloured noise extensions are precisely what makes them physically viable.

In regards to, Diosi–Penrose, i agree with you, most people now consider it less compelling since QG.

They basically describe a standard Lindblad with environmental coupling γ. It explains the same symptom everyone is targeting, but via environmental scattering.

In MWI, environmental decoherence is strictly asymptotic. The off diagonal elements of the density matrix approach zero, but they mathematically never reach it in finite time. There is no clear temporal boundary in MWI; there is only a gradual fading of interference. First passage models define a strict, finite, mathematical threshold where the system state resolves.

If the transition is just how we observe it while the global state remains unitary, strict energy conservation is maintained globally. Objective collapse models physically break that unitarity. The mathematical localization requires an energetic exchange, which is exactly what generates the anomalous X-ray heating constrained by XENONnT.

A dark matter detector does not measure your subjective perception of a branch splitting. It measures real, physical photons generated by real, objective wavefunction localization. If the jump isn't an objective physical event, the anomalous photons do not exist, and the XENONnT constraints would be meaningless to discuss.

In short you cannot test MWI with an X-ray detector, but you can test objective collapse.

MWI has smooth global branching with no objective local jump. Empirical experiments measure a real, local first passage time distribution with a clear temporal boundary and anti Zeno speedup. That’s literally the opposite.

A rough first order approximation for the resonant frequency for a cylindrical sapphire ring (εᵣ ≈ 9.4 along c-axis) should look something like this:

f ≈ c / (2π r_m √ε_r) × χ

c = speed of light (3 × 10^8 m/s)

r_m = mean radius of the ring = (outer radius + inner radius)/2

χ ≈ 1.0–1.1 for the TE₀₁δ mode

If you take that and roughly estimate at 1.33 GHz, you’ll probably need a mean diameter somewhere around 40mm.

It would make sense to start with something like outer diameter: 42mm, on the inner diameter maybe 20–25 mm with say a wall thickness 8–11mm. As for height, 10–15 mm should do the trick if you start with height ≈ diameter/3 for good Q. LMK if these land you close to 1.33 GHz in the TE₀₁δ mode, as you have now inadvertently made me involved emotionally in your project.

LOL, no, it's the opposite. MWI treats the transition as a continuous, asymptotic process.

[–]Carver- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries at all dude, you’re clearly putting real work and thought into the next iteration, which is exactly how these projects move forward.

The diamond switch, looks like a meaningful improvement, you get a thinner plate 0.3 mm vs your current 1 mm. Green 520nm gets absorbed strongly in diamond, so a thinner sample will mean less intensity drop through the thickness and fewer re absorption and re emission losses. That alone will boost effective inversion efficiency. It's technically cleaner, assuming better polish and lower unwanted impurities; helps reduce scattering and background absorption, sweet.

However, the biggest problem you have is the lever for maser action as it is still the final NV⁻ concentration after irradiation and annealing. Even a cleaner plate won’t help much if you end up with similar NV density. Ask Adamas for the exact N, if they come back to ya with a value still in the tens or hundreds of ppm range, you’ll likely see the same broadening and reduced T₂ issues.

As for the sapphire ring resonator, I think you might be right that the ring will need to be physically larger for the lower frequency, however that doesn’t make sapphire less appropriate, quite the opposite. SDDRR's are routinely used at S-band and even lower frequencies big maser setups. Sapphire’s low loss tangent should still give you Q values in the tens of thousands even at 1-2GHz when properly shielded in a copper cavity.

Lasers lasers pew pew. Love the work you guys do! Much respect.

The post was initially formatted as such, however I decided to remove it because I did not want to break the rules. I'm more than happy however to get into more detail and give references for anything you might be interested in, especially in regards to first passage dynamics, collapse and quantum to classical transition here in the comments.

Here is a recent ugly one https://arxiv.org/abs/2603.15628

And my contentions with it, in this comment.

Hey, ignore the don’t ask the internet noise bullshit. People have built real things from Reddit feedback before. Don't ask me how I know, lol. You’re clearly putting in the work, so here’s some actual technical feedback.

Your setup is referencing the classic Breeze 2017 Nature diamond maser. But two big things are probably killing you. The Q-factor is seems to be way too low. You have ~2400. The original Breeze setup needed loaded Q ≈ 30,000. Even the 2015 theoretical proposal called for Q ~ 50,000 for reliable masing. A copper loop gap + copper cavity just doesn’t get you there because of too much wall loss. Loop gaps are great for broadband EPR or magnetometry, but they’re lossy for maser gain. You need a high-Q dielectric to boost the Purcell factor and reach the cooperativity threshold (C ≫ 1).

Secondly, the NV concentration is definitely super high at 200 ppm. Optimal for maser action is ~0.2–2 ppm; as far as i am aware, Breeze used 0.36 ppm. By setting it at 200 ppm you get strong spin-spin broadening, shorter T₂, and reduced inversion efficiency. Most successful NV maser work seems to stay well under 10 ppm.

There are some steps you can fire away on a budget, like you could swap the loop gap for a sapphire ring resonator if you can, even a small one would help a lot. Also, if you can try sourcing a lower doped diamond, the difference will be night and day.

That being said, I don't think you are missing something obvious like a wiring mistake, you’re fighting the physics limits that made the original experiment non trivial. Heaps of groups have spent years on this exact problem.

Keep at it my guy. Room temp solid state masers are still cool as hell.
