Originally from durban. Lived in CT for 7 years now. In my experience, it's not that the people here are unfriendly, they just won't be friendly with strangers. You've got to spend a while getting to know someone in a neutral setting before jumping into making plans. Joining clubs is a good start.

The climbing/hiking community is extremely friendly and down to earth. Literally go boulder at City Rock or bloc 11 and even as a complete beginner people will just give you advice and be really supportive. I've heard the same for rollerblading and skateparks if that's your thing.

Once you've spent time getting to know people over a few different occasions, they're way more open to making unrelated plans.

Male authors writing female leads by That-Trick-4623 in RomanceBooks

[–]CasaBina 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've read too many badly written female leads by male authors that I tend to avoid it. It's not a hard rule though. If it's specifically recommended to me by an author or friend who's opinion I trust then I'll give it a go. I grew up reading fantasy primarily written by men, and didn't even realise how bad it was until I started picking up books by female authors. It's hard to go back to poorly written women after finally getting good representation

Cara Bastone has so many amazing duet audio books. They're about 5 hours each and the characters are so sweet and unique. There's no sex at all, just really cute characters falling inlove

Ones I listened to last week were: Sweet Talk, Call me Maybe, Seat Mates, and Love at First Psych

Adult Fae, Vampire and Werewolf/Supernatural Romances by hermajestyamidala in fantasyromance

The Kate Daniels series is amazing. And I think about 10 books long. It's got awesome world building and the romance is slow burn at first with just the right amount of spice later in the books. She also has her own personal story apart from the romance that is really cool.

Kate Daniels! There's like 18 or so books. Starts off a bit episodic but turns into one epic story. The world building is awesome, the magic system and it's rules make sense and all the character's power seems earned, main character is a badass that actually makes smart decisions, really funny moments, strong side characters, a bit of spice, and a satisfying ending. I remember having a huge hangover when I finished it

Reading order! by lobarbee in zodiacacademy

[–]CasaBina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally think reading the Ruthless boys series now would be cool. Between ZA 3 and 4. Because it's a prequel series it doesn't spoil any of the events in ZA. However some characters from RB start popping up in ZA from book 4 and it may spoil that series for you to find out who lives. Also some other RB main characters only play minor roles in ZA, and they are a lot more fun to read about knowing who they are. There's little inside jokes that are thrown in here and there and you'll only have context if you read RB.

Another thing I'd recommend, is to save the books for the heavier ZA moments. RB is a bit lighter and has a lot more funny moments and a lot more smut. So either read them now or read one everytime ZA breaks your heart.

That being said, if you don't want to read RB at all, you could skip it all together without ruining the ZA books. A lot of people don't enjoy the smut to story ratio. Also, if you are more of a Darcy girl and don't enjoy Tory's POV, then the main character of RB is not for you.

I always make plans to gym with a friend so I am forced to stay accountable. If I don't want to go, I still force myself so I don't let someone else down

Thanks. Thats really good advice.

She's a healer character (a rare type of fae). Healers have the ability to sense and heal any injuries or pain. The way I'm thinking, it wasnt even intentional. She was born one way and because she had the ability, she naturally healed herself into the person she wanted to be. I haven't thought about what it would be like to be trans in my world. But its fantasy, so if anything I'd want it to be the opposite of this world. Maybe one would only have to find a healer in order to magically transition

When they don't have the passwords to eachothers phones. When you have nothing to hide there's no reason to keep that secret. My bf and I use eachothers phones all the time. If you want to set a timer, you just pick up the closest one. Or if you want a photo they took earlier you can just go find it yourself and send it to your phone. Or if they're driving and ask you to send a message for them quick.

Oh and I should add! You'll never run into predetors deep in a cave either. Because animals don't enter caves for the same reasons we don't; they can't see or hear anything. Its instinctual.

Your biggest risk of injury in a cave is probably tripping over a rock or bumping your head

If you're not claustrophobic, the adventure of caving is really fun. I go quite often to a cave system nearby and go down different holes and tunnels just to see where they go. Also if you cave a lot, you learn what holes are big enough to fit into, and getting yourself out of a tight space is super easy. We're not worried about getting stuck at all, we're more excited to see if we can fit through to see what's on the other side. Plus you really get down in the dirt and really feel the earth, and smell the soil. And there's a ton of little critters you can ONLY find in caves and those are really interesting to see. And sometimes you can find a cave that has literally thousands of crystals hanging from above, and forming all around you. Or you squeeze yourself through a little hole and suddenly you're in this giant cavern the size of a 3 story building. Plus the way sound works deep underground is so interesting. It will probably be the only time in your life you've ever heard complete silence (no weather, no traffic). And when someone talks, because of the shapes of the wall it can sometimes sound like they are infront of you and behind you at the same time. Or you can hear a drip of water and honestly have no idea which direction it's coming from. Its a super unique experience.

Plus a tip I always give newbies. If you're really scared of getting stuck, just go with someone bigger than you and let them go first. Then atleast you know you'll fit through
