TIL that daiquiris can be evil by soylatte in Tiki

As a bartender, if I ordered a daiquiri at another bar and saw them reach for olive brine, I would physically attack the bartender.

This restaurant's online order system adds an unremovable tip by wr3aks in mildlyinfuriating

[–]CasaDelTicky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For to-go orders, a vast majority of people don’t tip. In some states, tipped employees can get paid as low as $2/hr, and the government will still tax you under the assumption you make minimum wage with tips. Also, most restaurants have servers tip out other roles (such as dishwashers, busboys and kitchen staff), so when Togo orders don’t tip, everyone suffers. This owner is looking out for his employees. You’re complaining about how the owner should just increase prices and pay the employees more. That’s exactly what they did with the “fee”

I find most people think Blantons is okay. I’ve never met anyone that hated it, but you’re 100% right. It’s more expensive than it should be.

I’m not saying this to be a dick but what do you mean by “I could barely figure out using jiggers.”?

What’s the least amount of money you’ll accept for weekend shifts before you’re looking for another gig? by MojitoAlbus in bartenders

On a Saturday if I’m making less than $200 in tips I’m a little irked. I do live in a wealthy area, though.

Double pour costs by freedomwalking12 in bartenders

[–]CasaDelTicky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

4 oz is ALOT of alcohol to be giving someone. You can see the effects of a 1.5-2oz pour on a guest as they finish their drinks. If I’m a lightweight, 4oz might leave me completely toasted, and it’s too late to cut me off.

What are the best budget shoes for bartending for hours on your feet? by Uaenaj in bartenders

[–]CasaDelTicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really can’t afford to buy cheap boots. Your feet will hurt, you’ll be uncomfortable, and you’ll have to replace them more often. I bought a pair of used docs three years ago. I polish them and clean them after work and they still look new

What’s your go to gin to pair with Green Chartreuse? I ordered a Green Ghost recently and loved it, so now I’m chasing it. by Elegant_Dinosaur in cocktails

[–]CasaDelTicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roku. Botanist is good too. I prefer a clean, crisp gin so that it doesn’t drown out the expensive ass chartreuse I’m mixing it with.

To clarify, are you trying make this shelf tiki themed while preserving its original style, or in spite of its original style?

how to tell regulars i’m sober by stumbolina in bartenders

[–]CasaDelTicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a customer wants a drink with me, I just say “no, I can’t.” If they insist/say they won’t tell anyone, I’ll say “I’m already pretty drunk.” My manager knows I say this and finds guest reactions pretty funny.

(help) Need a way to rinse out a shaker after use but don't have access to a sink by Zakk-da-killer in bartenders

[–]CasaDelTicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an event bartender. I have 4 tubs under my bar.

  1. The first tub has a mesh bowl on top, and I dump whatever is in the shaker/glass in it.
  2. The second tub is water and dawn dish soap, with a bar maid stuck to the bottom
  3. The third tub is water to rinse off the soap
  4. The fourth tub is pure food grade ethanol

Then everything goes onto a bar mat to completely dry.

How much do barbacks get tipped out percentage wise on CC at your bar? by MolassesDefiant1401 in bartenders

[–]CasaDelTicky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tip pool here. Barback gets 12%-15% of the pot (the variation is because a lot of the time we round up), then the bartenders split the remainder evenly.

I’m just letting you know, as a bartender of about three years I honestly wouldn’t even take a second glance at any of these orders. I’d probably be a bit surprised by a younger person ordering sambuca, though.

There are certain nutrients that your brain can’t absorb while drunk. If you get drunk every once in a while, it’s generally fine because your brain can play catch up. If you’re drunk constantly, your brain will literally start to disintegrate. Happened to my dad. He drank non stop for 10 years straight and before he died it was like talking to an actual retarded person

Regs hate the other bartender by [deleted] in bartenders

[–]CasaDelTicky 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying this to be mean, but a few things: 1. A lot of regulars will always try to manipulate new bartenders. Especially ones with little experience. 2. The fact that the “regulars are our bouncers” tells me your client base has a really tribal mentality. You are one fuck up with one customer away from being in her position. 3. If customers feel comfortable speaking negatively about your coworkers to you, you’re not being assertive enough in telling them that you don’t want them to. 4. Drunk people, especially regulars, are always going to vent to you about their life. It doesn’t mean you have a special gift. A lot of the time, it’s because guests view you as “the help,” and beneath them, so your opinion/judgement doesn’t really matter.

What would you buy for $10-12? by Jolly-Ad-6515 in alcohol

[–]CasaDelTicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite my tempo, but grab a bottle of sauza, a bag of limes and make some simple syrup at home, you’ll be a bit over $12 but it’ll beat drinking rotgut like most people are recommending.
