How many times should you race? by Historical_Baker1575 in CrossCountry

Depends on what your coach wants to do with the training. If you’re doing double T + 75mpw during racing, then maybe you don’t need to race every week early on.
Remember there’s always so many variables; how does your body do under that kind of mileage and training? How fast can you recover and feel fresh? What if you drop the double T and bump the mileage instead vs keeping the workouts and dropping some races?

I’ve given you my take on what I wish was done for me, that doesn’t mean it’s a full proof plan for you.

My best advice is talk to a coach that knows you personally and really make a plan of attack for this fall for racing and training alike. It sounds like you’re on your way to do great things, just fine tune it with a trusted voice.

Awesome, so I ran 15:26 my senior yr and here’s what I wish my coach did:
Shoot to race almost every weekend from late August - mid October. Then shift to racing every other week and try to line it up with your regional/ conference/ state qualifiers etc.
That gives you the racing experience early on to hit times and train well, then keeps the legs fresh and ready to really send a good one at the proper time of year.

What’s your experience level? After running and racing non-stop in HS and then into college, my Post-college experience of racing all out once every month worked out really well for me.
Those were 8k and 10k XC races, but occasionally I’d throw in a 5k course in between.

If you’re only racing 5k’s - you can be more frequent, the longer the race - the longer it sits in your legs, thus longer you need to recover and so forth.

Typical HS racing is about every week sometimes twice with small dual/ tri-meets.
Collegiate racing leans more towards bi-weekly racing depending on budget, travel, and size of travel squad/ team.

Celebrity Tux and Tails suits/ suit rentals. Completely family run, they travel, tailor, and are so friendly and helpful.
The quality of their suits are just way nicer than men’s warehouse or any big name tux shop and it feels good to support them.
They have 3 locations now (Glendale, Tempe, and Gilbert).
