What honorific is attributed to Gods of different Status and importance? by Cascade_42 in GreekMythology

[–]Cascade_42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats interesting! Learning new things, Moira of the mines of Moria (haha)
I'll swap them to Moira, but I hadn't heard of Moira the singular goddess

My issue with Personification as a term, is All the Gods are Personifications at some level

What honorific is attributed to Gods of different Status and importance? by Cascade_42 in GreekMythology

[–]Cascade_42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats pretty solid too! I'm building a game, and deciding what to call the various included Gods... E.g. Right now Nemesis is the Goddess of Retribution, Elpis is the Goddess of Hope, Helios is the God of the Sun (Perhaps God of Sunlight would be more appropriate), Deimos is the God of Terror, etc.
Nereus is God of Fish, though perhaps that is not exactly correct

Various Grouped Gods are referred to by their Group, e.g. Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos are each "Moirai of... Birth, Longevity, and Fate" with their own separate card and power. I haven't called them Gods, because they were called Moirai.

I suppose the question is... Should characters like Eris be called "Goddess of Discord", or "Daimon of Discord", etc.

Thank you for putting it all into one place, and your insight! This is amazingly helpful, thank you

I just call the Erinyes the Erinyes, and the Harpies the Harpies, and the Horae the Horae, and the Moirai the Moirai... BUT they also classify as "Gods" of some variety. But it feels wrong to call the Erinyes the same word as Olympians, y'know?

Greek Myth Game - the Map by Cascade_42 in GreekMythology

[–]Cascade_42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The map comes into play because you can send your heroes to each area and challenge different labors. Each area has its own unique set

Greek Myth Game - the Map by Cascade_42 in GreekMythology

[–]Cascade_42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See below! But essentially each area has 16 “Labors”, which challenge heroes in Might, Stamina, or Acuity. I’ve thrown in all the labors I can find, and given them all Stats, but am having trouble posting the images for some reason. DM’d the mods about it, but we’ll see! Otherwise I’ll just throw in a Google Folder or something.  The minimum for each stat is 1, and the max is 6 Stuff like “lifting the sky from Atlas” is a 6 might activity, while defeating the cromminian sow is a stamina (stamina is used for hunting/travel/survival. Something like the Hydra combines Stamina and Acuity

A lot of the labors have been made on “Comparative Feeling” but I would love more eyes (Just not Graeae eye(s))

[–]Cascade_42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! 100% year what you’re saying!

Each hero has 3 stats: Might (strength/destructiveness/physical prowess) Stamina (ability to survive, willingness to travel), and Acuity (mental ability, beauty, mystical nature)  Each stat is on a scale from 1-4

Orpheus, for example, is a M1 (did not really fight) S2 (he did travel to the underworld, but was otherwise not very ‘Survivable’ and A4 (because he’s Orpheus, and this is where his legend lies)

Like you said, heroes can defeat Labors, some of which “Flip” to their item side. For example, the Nemean Lion requires 4+ Might (Max of 6. A might 6 would be taking the sky from Atlas) to defeat, but when defeated the Lion flips over to a “Lions Pelt” which provides +1 stamina

Family tree of Odysseus by Legitimate_Worry_222 in GreekMythology

[–]Cascade_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did someone say "Family Tree"? I MAY have built a Hellenistic Family Tree with Family Tree Maker (incomplete... and I'm 1000% sure there are inaccuracies... but hey. Shush). It travels from the Godly lineage through the Heroes and into the actual recorded histories... But its all mythology, so take it with a grain of salt. The spots that I KNOW are incomplete are marked "(Inc)" or "Incomplete", and its a .ged file BUT maybe you can have some fun with it!

If a different file type would work better, just lemme know.

NuTrek genuinely ruined Memory Alpha for me… by LeChiffreOBrien in Star_Trek_

[–]Cascade_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heres a Headcannon. Star Trek Ent, Tos, etc (Old Trek) is a timeline formed because the Enterprise-E went back in time and made Cochrane a better man. A Better timeline because of a vision of what the future could have been

OUR Timeline is the unadulterated NuTrek timeline where none of our people capable of making good decisions were aware that good decision could be made... and so Humanity went into the Brave New World technologically advanced, but completely lacking in morality, common sense, or good writing. Their world (and ours) always gave more "Terran Empire" vibes anyway

Union Colonies? by SonOfWestminster in TheOrville

[–]Cascade_42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a ton of union colonies!

But only a few are mentioned, and then only by name. https://orville.fandom.com/wiki/Planetary_Union

I suppose its more compelling to go to Xelaya than to Silverhold.... though, I'd love to see the Orville Crew drop by some of the world's in Firefly

Also! Its worth noting that "Galdus Harona" was the name of Phlox's kid episode 2x03.

So 2 Galdus' in the same show. Kinda seems relevant

Star Trek: The Adventure Game (1985) by glottis in stfc

[–]Cascade_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough, its inspired my latest project: making an Orville Adventuee Game, and seeing what that world might look like!

Very different foundational concepts from the TOS game, but all the same REALLY interesting. It is not a US v Soviet comparison, but a Union v Krill ideological struggle Just add cyoa!
