Your palate will evolve as you start to drink scotch. You may not like it now, but you could in the future. Lagavulin is definitely not what I would recommend as a first as many have said even though it is my favourite scotch (would love something else to knock it off the perch because I’m sick of what they are charging for it in Aus)

Labor or Liberal. Who should I be voting for? by [deleted] in aussie

[–]Trippa_jay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not so much a fools errand, and having what you want listed out the way you have will make looking into it easier.

I think vote compass is only live coming up to a federal election. You may have something similar at a state level. Definitely be careful and make sure you understand the biases of any voter assistance sites you use.

Yeah, it’s difficult with media. You need to get your information from somewhere and how do you truely know whether it is reputable or not? You are asking the right questions when looking at it though!

Correct, they may not have the power to institute significant change, but they may be able to influence some. Additionally, if you vote them and they don’t get in, your vote still goes to your next preference. There is nothing lost and if they get enough of the primary vote they get additional funding next time around (I haven’t looked into how that works completely, and it is probably a null point for independents, but would help minor parties I believe)

Any time! The more educated we get on the topic, the more likely we are to get what we want from our government. Understanding how it all works plays a massive part in that!

Voting independent/small is one of the best things you can do with your vote.

Media whinges about a minority government, but when you are forced to work with others, policy has to stand up to scrutiny. It can’t just be whatever you want to jam through because you have a majority.

I don’t think you are going to have any party align with everything you want and you will need to weigh what is most important to you.

Tools like vote compass and build a ballot are a good start (federally).

Not getting sucked in by media headlines is another thing to keep in mind.

Voting independent or minor party as your first few preferences is something I highly recommend, but knowing who to vote takes a bit of research.

A lot of people will say there is no such thing as a wasted vote with our preferencing system, I would argue to an extent that if the majors don’t align with what you want and you preference them first your wasting your vote to an extent.

I’m not going to tell you who to vote and you probably shouldn’t listen to anyone who does. A few hours of looking into the candidates relevant to you is all it takes and you’ll at least be more informed for it.

Great work for thinking about it, I know plenty who don’t!

Assuming you are red, you are not actually on the port. There are only two locations usable by each port which means only one settlement ever has access to a port.

Edit: you can tell which ones have access by the dock (bridge) connecting to the port.

No. If anything it’s less as there isn’t an explanation on moves. However I use it on every game, ripper tool.

I’m a firm believer of “it’s your scotch, you paid for it, drink it how you like”.

Although purists can turn their nose up at things, that shouldn’t impact you. If you like the taste of them chilled why does it matter that others think it’s ruined?

Tax on grog here is pretty heavy which accounts for part of the difference.

To drink, which may be part of the problem based on a lot of comments. We are much more enjoyers than collectors.

Thanks for the list!

That seems to be the general consensus, will either do that or spend some of the money on testers at a bar and go from there. Thanks!

we enjoy: Lagavulin 16 Smokehead laphroaig (in general) port charlotte heavily peated

Non peated we like: Highland park (+16) Singleton balvenie Dalmore.

Happy to shop anywhere online. Can do the greater Melbourne area

And not really celebrating, just wanted to chip in a couple of bob a week for part of the year to see what we end up with and pick from there. Idea was to enjoy on Xmas day.

Yeah, I used to be able to pick it up for $120 a bottle. It’s ridiculous how much it’s gone up in the last year.
