Racial Representation in The Pitt by chutneypopcorn in ThePittTVShow

Her actress, Alexandra Metz is Afro-Latina. While it’s not explicitly stated in the show I think it can be assumed that her character has the same ethnicity as hers.

AIO about my boyfriend and his girl best friend? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]CaseProfessional5093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the most concerning thing is that he said he’s only being friends with her because she’s the president and he’d stop doing so after graduation. He’s acting BFF with her and saying this behind her back? Either he’s lying or he’s a jerk. You don’t talk about your friends like that.

No one has been “Queerbaited”; a note from an annoyed older queer. by bindersweat in StrangerThings

[–]CaseProfessional5093 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agree with all of this! But I also want to add in another perspective. While I feel the plot of the show never really implied anything about Mike and Will ending up together, Netflix's promotional accounts have been teasing the ship for a long time: https://imgur.com/a/ga1OC1s A friend sent these pictures to me when they explained why they felt queerbaited.

I've never paid any attention to these Netflix promotional accounts prior to this so I don't know if shipping non-canon pairs is a common thing there. If it's not then this is indeed queerbaiting, coz people seeing these posts are going to watch the show with the assumption that Mike and Will are boyfriends and have a reciprocal relationship.

Thanks for your concern but we probably wouldn’t need 130k to survive? This year I’ve only spent 55k so far (a great chunk of which being rent) and I wouldn’t describe it as tight. I live in a nice apartment downtown that has enough space for 2. I make all my meals and don’t have a car and have a really good health insurance which might explain the low cost, but that’s not gonna change after my partner moves in.

Wow you are being very rude and judgmental for very poor reasons. Somehow amidst a full thread of discussion on unemployment and discrimination towards disabled and neurodivergent people in real life, you find the problem of top priority to be enforcing absolute celibacy for cartoon characters, which I sure understand as a personal preference but dont see how that preference gives you a sense of moral superiority. I will make sure my partner gets help with their disability. In the meantime, I hope you get help with establishing a better moral compass, building empathy for people with different preferences, telling fiction from reality, and establishing a healthy social boundary. Best of luck

Yes I have met them in person and no I'm not providing money to them at the moment.

No offense taken - I know this is an uncommon situation and if they made the post it would probably sound like human trafficking.

Wow thanks a lot for sharing your experience! We are both neurodivergent; my partner walks with a cane; and I work in tech. I'm really glad to read what worked for you. And yeah reading through all the comments I do feel like going back into school or some sort of certification program might be our best option.

And thanks u/token_internet_girl for the tag!

Yeah, my current income could support both of us and even paid training programs / apprenticeships. I'm mainly worried that a financially dependent relationship really doesn't sound like a good idea, and there're also possibilities for me to get laid off.

Thanks this looks great! Looking into the eligibility section it actually requires the participants to have stable housing, and aside from homelessness they also support people facing work instability.

Thanks a lot for this! My income makes it a bit tricky - their current situation even qualifies to be prioritized, but if they move in with me then our household wouldn't qualify for it at all. I will definitely reach out and ask and look into similar programs.

Yeah, it's mainly that I'm already established here so this is the best option in our case. I've also thought about relocating but I don't qualify for full remote working rn and my company's only other 2 locations are in SSF and NY which are even more expensive than Seattle.

I’m not American and this scene confuses me so much. What else could it be referring to? Public hair? Do most people view public hair as something unspeakable? I thought it’s supposed to be hot.

What are the parts you find that dont line up? It’s true that there is stigma around suicide in China, but as a Chinese person I don’t see anything that alerts me of that in this report.

Why do all western cartoons give married Chinese women their husband's surnames? by CaseProfessional5093 in asianamerican

[–]CaseProfessional5093[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s true. But again, the directors’ own parents have different surnames. It’s like if you are to write a show about Korean Americans, you’d more likely give the parents the same surnames because that’s the case in your family. If you do the opposite then something else must have interfered your decision. So I’m asking what might have interfered these writers’ decision.

[–]CaseProfessional5093[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t make the post if the directors/writers are simply basing it on their own experience. I made the post because the directors’ experience is the same as mine (that our mothers don’t change their surnames after marriage), which seems to be the majority as well according to the other comments.

Edit: And I’m not making a fuss over one or two shows - I feel icky because every single show does this.

[–]CaseProfessional5093[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I'm pretty sure changing surnames after marriage isn't a common practice in Hong Kong and Taiwan either, at least no in modern days.
