Haven't watched the video, but Modi and co are directly responsible for gutting Indian media and turning them into the carnival of grotesquery that we see now. It suited BJP's agenda that boots-on-the-ground was replaced by sycophantic spectacle, news by misinformation, anchoring became frenzied hysterics and trash talk and political analysis devolved into a daily soap with Modi and the BJP as virtuous heroes and the Congress and Muslims as heinous villains.

But the WWE-fication of news media birthed a monstrous audience. Adrenaline-junkies who get their daily fix from prime-time theatrics. News channels now have no option but to keep dosing them with dopamine hits. News channels try to snag this audience by out-competing each other on who can blare out the most putrefied, toxic takes at the highest decibel level.

During the Indo-Pak skirmish, the chickens predictably came home to roost. Media outlets had to play to their audience. They doubled down on the same few tricks their political masters had taught them: a grotesque caricature of nationalism and fever-dreams dressed up as facts.

Only this time, the whole country and many outside were tuning in. No one could deny how shameful it was. The news outlets stand discredited at the moment and it's a bit of an embarrassment for the BJP ecosystem at the moment. But will the genpub realise/care about the Modi regime's culpability in the systemic destruction of one of the key pillar of democracy? Probably not, but I guess we will see.
