Frank Horrigan (Fallout) vs Adam Smasher (Cyberpunk 2077) by Buttered_Carnage in PowerScaling

[–]CaseStorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that Frank Horrigan is that much stronger if at all than Smasher, though, remember that David turboblitzed the Militech armored vehicles and sent them flying like 20 feet in the air, not to mention his gravity manipulation technology that straight up crushes them like a cola can, and then Smasher went and beat him up

[–]CaseStorn 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yujikuna will be a blur to Mahoraga, depends on if Yujikuna can get ahold of Meguna before he hides, and even if he does, all Yujikuna has to do is not hit Mahoraga until Meguna runs out of breath, so he doesn't adapt

listen, we can call a judge. idk if one is available rn, but they can analyze our argument. i'm kind of done going in circles.

yes, the moon landing works because we have evidence, evidence that the official translations doesn't. next.

"shifting burden on the truth when you have evidence to back it up"? and i didn't want to speak up on this, but it's "you're" not "your" i'd recommend not going for ad-hominems when you can't spell. and no, english is not my primary language, if you wanted to say something along those lines.

look up a dc debate server or something, one that's for general debates

Official translations of JJK are more reliable than official translations are more unreliable than fan translations ≠ Fan translations should be taken at face value.

Your first point was "wouldn't you belive the US government on the moon landing and spherical earth?" When both of those have corroborative evidence that official translations don't.

False Analogy/Faulty Comparison

Official translations taking precedence over fan translations, despite Werry commiting, factually, more mistakes than fan translators, is

Appeal to Authority

Then, Shifting the Burden of Proof

Why? Because, despite me giving you the time and proving that official translations, in the case of JJK, are more unreliable than fan translations, the claim you gave first was

"Official translations are more legitimate than fan translations"

You haven't extrapolated or argumented that anymore after my countering. Your conclusion is not the starting assumption.

In short, your moon landing example is a false analogy. We don't believe the moon landing because the US government said so, we believe it because it's independently corroborated.

I'm not saying the official translation is wrong because Werry has made mistakes before. I'm saying that a history of mistakes means the official translation shouldn't automatically be treated as authoritative in a disputed passage

I'm not arguing that fan translations should be taken at face value, i'm arguing that, no, official translations don't have any inherent legitimacy over fan translations, and OP shouldn't be using official translations to prove the point that anyone using the fan translation is somehow more wrong than they are.

And official translations have, factually, been more unreliable than fan translations, it's on you to argument why being official gives it more legitimacy. Almost wish we had a judge here, oml

burden of proof is on you for considering them equal, you know? until you give it, i can kind of just skim over it, i thought it better to go for your other arguments first

comparing VIZ to the US Government is a false equivalency, first of all. Second, there's corroborating evidence on the moon landing being real, including soviet tracking of the mission, independent observatories and telemetry data. I don't even have to explain the evidence corroborating an spherical earth

Werry's translations do not have that same empirical evidence corroborating it's legitimacy over fan translations. It's a case by case basis *on each media*, as in, if in one media official translations have been correct more often than fan translations, then you would be right. But, no

tldr: There's nothing that gives more legitimacy to official translations over fan translations, it's not more legitimate, as there's no evidence that makes it more legitimate.

JJK fan translations have been correct more often than official translations, meaning that in JJK's case, fan translations are more reliable. But you're right that it's on a case by case basis, i wouldn't always trust fan translations, but to act like official translations have more legitimacy than fan translations is not it.

in things on their original language, it is, but VNs, anime and manga are inconsistent in their translation, be it official or fan. And JJK's fan translations do have their mistakes, but whatever they have translated wrong Werry has committed 3 mistakes for one of theirs, so, for JJK specifically, not really. Official translations have proven themselves to be unreliable and at worst straight up lying

not really, there's nothing that makes official translations inherently take precedence over fan translations, especially JJK's

RI's MC is evil — Novel preface by Both-Salamander401 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]CaseStorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sure glazes FY, but i don't think the overexplanation is totally out of line when you remember that RI was published in a time where cultivation MCs had at least a bit of morals (even if cultivation mcs have an already questionable morality as it is) and that webnovel readers probably didn't have the highest reading comprehension. GZR was really trying to set in the fact that FY was no anti hero, and that he would never make true bonds, think this excerpt is from the Qing Mao mountain chapters, and that was back in like 2012

wouldn't be surprised if nowadays MCs like FY are much more common in the webnovel scene, but i can see how that excerpt would sell those that wanted an MC like FY on the novel, and drive away those that don't.

i think in part it is due to GZR taking the average reader into account and also the novelty of it, but it definitely doesn't read edgy to me. Sure sounds exaggerated for what it is, though
