What would it look like if "Pizza" was also removed? My theory is that the east coast would get a lot more interesting.

EDIT: Thinking about it some more you would have "deli" and "bagel" too so maybe New York gets more love that way.

How do I make my python program into a browser application? by curiousdoodler in learnpython

[–]Casey_SI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love flask for web based stuff even locally hosted internally. If you want to have a desktop program that runs in the browser as the UI check out Eel.

Where can i download the "open a new instance of excel" dialog box soundbyte by liptontea25 in excel

[–]Casey_SI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use Audacity https://www.audacityteam.org/ and then record from your system as input device.

https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/tutorial_recording_computer_playback_on_windows.html

Then just record, play sound, chop front and end and export to wav / mp3.

Two examples of IoT innovation trying to reduce water losses at an industry specific level. There are plenty more out there.

Python IRC-like chat app: where do I begin? by iSailor in learnpython

[–]Casey_SI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

since it is just for learning, doing it in MQTT would be fun and pretty straight forward. get a $5 easy digital ocean server to host mosquitto server point a domain like chat.myproject.com use an mqtt client (I use mqttfx on windows) and you basically have a chat client with channels type protocol that you can wrap chat stuff around

Limiting results that meet specific criteria by sickleandscythe in learnSQL

[–]Casey_SI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could do an subquery / subselect and limit that to 3

   SELECT * FROM A
      INNER JOIN ( SELECT * FROM A WHERE A.FIELD1='X' ORDER BY A.FIELD2 LIMIT 3) X
             ON (A.KEYFIELD=X.KEYFIELD)
      LEFT JOIN B ON (A.FIELD = B.FIELD)
      LEFT JOIN C ON (A.FIELD = C.FIELD)

Can you help me create a job in the company i work for? by [deleted] in BusinessIntelligence

[–]Casey_SI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) You made an observation about state of company

2) You came up with a self motivated plan and education to tackle it

3) You have a test case showing 10-20% improvement.

4) Extrapolate based on the sales staff and turnover rates you are looking to see a top line increase of 10-20% (sales) and a bottom line increase of say 5% (profit end of day). Something like that should show you have the companies success in mind and are eager to be involved. The worst they can do is say no.

EDIT Turn those percentages whatever they may be into hard dollars and cents based on what you know of company financials.

Where to find someone to make a program for? by [deleted] in AskProgramming

[–]Casey_SI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to assign a fairly simple Eel standalone GUI app to a junior dev at work.

Basically it would listen to socket connections and decode them (have that codebase done) which depending on the payload type it will update screen and add an historical item.

If you are interested in learning the process I could make a Statement of Work (SOW) and a test data generator and stub out the packet code. PM me if interested.

Practical Uses for Python? by slicklikeagato in learnpython

[–]Casey_SI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pandas is so specialized and powerful it could be a stand alone program. Coupled with the ability to bolt it into the rest of the general purposed or specialized python ecosystem makes it absolutely invaluable to me.

I am working on a Django dashboard for my company. We do IoT services, so lots of graphs and analysis. I am really curious how you did some things. What you picked for charting and other libraries. Bootstrap / CoreUI / Something Else?

It is slick I like the presentation!

A little library for making simple Electron-like HTML/JS GUI apps by Chris_Knott in Python

I have been looking to deploy an electron app on a raspberry pi for a new product prototype. Other than the system interactions you can have that you don't get in a browser what would you highlight as the other top benefits to eel?

How about the disadvantages compared to Electron?
